Imphal, June 09 2022: A special investigation team has been probing the activities of Mark Thangmang Haokip, self styled president of the Democratic Republic of Kukiland (DRK), said IGP Themthing Ngasangva.

Speaking to media persons at Imphal West District Police headquarters this evening, the IGP said that a SIT was constituted considering the magnitude and seriousness of the case of Mark Thangmang Haokip.

The SIT is headed by Imphal West Addl SP Rattana Ngasepam and she is assisted by SDPO Imphal West an the OC, Imphal police station.

Against many bank accounts opened by Mark Haokip and other members of DRK, the SIT is currently examining transaction details of two accounts, Themthing Ngasangva said.

One of the two accounts was opened in Manipur while the other was opened outside the State.

Transaction details of the first account run into 196 pages while the second one has 80 pages of transaction details.

Transaction details of the two accounts run to 276 pages, the IGP said.

The transactions have two different sources and it is being examined whether the transactions have links to terrorist acts of DRK, he said.

Moreover, all the incriminating documents including electronic and digital records have been sent to Forensic Science laboratory.

By churning out false propaganda, the party led by Mark was waging war to create an independent Kukiland by carving out territories from India, Myanmar and Bangladesh, the IGP said.

DIG K Kabib and Imphal West SP Ksh Shivkanta were also present at the press meet.

On the other hand, the Session Judge, Imphal West today remanded Mark Thangmang Haokip to judicial custody till June 21 on the alleged charges of waging or attempting to wage war or abetting war against the Government of India in the capacity of a separatist outfit's president called the Government of the People's Democratic Republic of Kukiland (GPDRK) .

On the other hand, a large number of members and volunteers of the Kabui Mothers' Association (KAMA) and Kanglei Ima Lup (KIL) staged a protest demonstration demand befitting punishment when the alleged accused was brought to Cheirap Court complex under very tight security measures.

Mark Thangmang Haokip was produced before the Court today by Addl SP, Imphal West Rattana Ngasepam who is the IO of the case after completion of police custody period along with a prayer for judicial custody remand for smooth investigation of the case.

No counsel represented the alleged accused today.

Through an APP, the IO submitted that the accused, being president of GPDRK, was involved in a conspiracy for secession from India and to wage or attempting to wage war or abetting war against the Government of India.

During the interrogation, it has been revealed that the accused, through his propaganda, instigated and mobilised people and obstructed a tree plantation programme at Thangjing Hill.

The APP further submitted that the accused was using social media platforms to create instability, communal hatred, animosity, propagate false propaganda to breed hatred and violence to achieve the goal of his organisation (GPDRK) and to gain sovereign power against the State for the so called Kukiland which comprises of areas under India, Myanmar and Bangladesh.

On further investigation by the IO, bank statements were discovered revealing multiple transactions from numerous accounts running to 276 pages in total and the said transactions are highly suspected to be associated with terror funding, the APP said.

The alleged accused was also found guilty of forging his own character certificate/verification certificate which was purportedly issued by Churachandpur police station for use in applying for Indian passport, the APP said and prayed for remanding the accused to judicial custody.

On the other hand, no counsel represented the accused and his family members prayed for some time to engage a new counsel.

The Court, after hearing the submission of the APP and on perusal of the material on record, remanded Mark Thangmang Haokip to judicial custody till June 21 .
