Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, July 08 2022: Rahul Laishram of Catholic School, Canchipur has topped the High School Leaving Certificate Examination (HSLCE) 2022 conducted by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) .

Rahul Laishram scored 586 marks out of total 600 .

Nongmaithem Dhanajeet and Tanishq Tongbram, both students of Heritage Convent, Uripok shared the second spot with 585 marks.

The third place is also shared between two students namely; Menaka Huidrom of Eureka Academy, Thounaojam and Jesia Khwairakpam of Ratankumar Memorial School, Kwakeithel Heinoukhongnembi.

They scored 584 marks each.

Notably, as many as 164 students scored full marks (100 out of 100) in Mathematics.

Altogether 39,233 students appeared in the HSLCE 2022 and 29,814 students cleared the exam which implies a pass percentage of 76 per cent.

51.98 per cent of the candidates cleared the exam in first division, 23.33 per cent in second division and 0.68 per cent in third division.

The pass percentages for Government schools, aided schools and private schools are 60.46, 70.52 and 80.69 respectively.

District-wise pass percentages are Imphal West 72.01, Imphal East & Jiribam 72.83, Thoubal & Kakching 93.24, Bishnupur 81.72, Ukhrul & Kamjong 74.82, Churachandpur & Pherzawl 56.31, Senapati & Kangpokpi 69.66, Tamenglong & Noney 69.52 and Chandel & Tengnoupal 87.07 .

During the last 10 years, the HSLCE pass percentage is the highest this year with the exception of 2021 where all the students/candidates were given automatic promotion on account of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The pass percentage was 73.18 in 2018, 74.69 in 2019 and 65.34 in 2020 .

The exam results were officially announced by Education Minister Th Basantakumar in the examination hall of BoSEM this afternoon.

Speaking at the occasion, Th Basantakumar said it was a big achievement for BoSEM Chairman, Secretary and other officials that the HSLCE 2022 results could be announced in time.

He said that even the CBSE is still unable to declare results of Class X examination.

Although no Government school student could make it to the top 25 merit list, one should not be disheartened for the Government's aim is not restricted to producing toppers but is equally committed to rise the pass percentage, he said.

Earlier Government schools could not reach pass percentage of 55 per cent but this time the pass percentage of Government schools has reached 60.46 per cent, Basantakumar remarked.

Saying that maximum efforts would be invested to accommodate all the students who have cleared Class X exam, the Education Minister stressed the need for Government schools to work harder so as to produce toppers in the coming years.

Informing that more than 8000 posts of teachers are currently vacant, Basantakumar said that the vacant posts of teachers would be filled to the maximum possible level.

He said that a pilot project has been initiated to impart moral education to students.

As per an advice of the Chief Minister, a command and control office of education would be opened soon.

The Centre has already sanctioned Rs 10 crore for the new initiative, he said.
