Housewife found dead, UG suspect slain, Up-pradhan stabbed to death

Imphal, March 08, 2014: In unrelated incidents of violence at different places in the past 48 hours a woman has been found dead with a JAC formed in connection with the death alleging murder even as an Up-pradhan was stabbed to death and a suspected underground activist gunned down by police commandos.

One Sapam (N) Ichal (17) of Langthabal Khunou under Kakching police station was found hung to death at his husband's house at Koijam Maring village at around 6.30 pm yesterday.

Ichal was married to Moringchan (23) s/o James Maring of Koijam Maring village about three months back.

Incidentally, Koijam Maring village and Langthabal Khunou are just half a kilometre apart.

Speaking to media persons at JNIMS today, the JAC constituted against the controversial death of Ichal alleged that it was not a case of suicide but murder.

JAC president Khundrakpam Yaimabi, while strongly condemning the alleged murder, urged the concerned authority to investigate the case thoroughly and punish the culprits.

Before her controversial death, Ichal stayed at her parental home for three days.

She went back to her husband's home on March 6.

Housewife found dead

She again came to her parental home on March 7 too.

But she soon went to the house of one Nganthoi of the neighbourhood for fear of chiding by her father.

Nganthoi and Ichal were said to be friends.

At Nganthoi's home, Ichal said that her three sarongs went missing when she was away at her parental home.

She also confided that her husband was a drug abuser.

After sometime, Moringchan came to Nganthoi's house and dragged away Ichal.

Ichal was physically very week after she suffered profuse bleeding because of thrashing by her husband.

In the meantime, Ichal and her mother communicated to get her treated at a hospital.

Ichal asked her mother to wait for her at Jeevanlata hospital on March 7 but Ichal never turned up till late evening.

When the mother reached her home, she was informed that Ichal was found hung to death.

When parental family members reached Moringchan's home, Ichal was found lying on bed with her body covered with a cloth up to neck.

Citing repeated cases of physical assault on Ichal by her husband earlier and on the fateful day too, Yaimabi maintained that it was not a case of suicide.

However, family members of Moringchan who also came to JNIMS said that after bringing home Ichal, Moringchan went to fetch water.

Even after Moringchan had finished fetching water, Ichal's room remained locked from inside.

Even as Moringchan asked his wife to open the door, there was no response.

When the door was broke open, Ichal was found hanging with a khudei (loin cloth).

Immediately, she was pulled down and untied the knot.

All attempts were made to save her life but it went in vain, said Moringchan's family.

Even as post mortem of Ichal's body was conducted at JNIMS mortuary today, a protest demonstration was staged at Langthabal Khunou against the controversial death.

One killed in encounter: A suspected Kuki militant was killed in an encounter that reportedly took place with Thoubal police commandos at Komla Ching village under Yairipok PS, Ukhrul district today around 1pm. Police source said, based on input about an UG cadre taking shelter in the village, a team of Thoubal commandos entered Komla Ching today.

An encounter ensued when the suspected UG opened fire towards the commandos.

A pistol with two live rounds and a mobile phone were found beside the dead body.

The source said that an armed man stopped one Mutum Nabakishore (45) S/o Ibobi of Chandrakhong Mayai Leikai while he was riding back home from Yairipok at Yairipok Kakyai Malom Lamkhai.

Instead of stopping his vehicle, Nabakishore took a U-turn and gathered some nearby villagers.

The armed man then went to Komla Ching village.

On receiving the report, a team of Thoubal police commandos rushed to the village where the encounter reportedly took place resulting in the death of the suspected UG cadre.

The body has been deposited at JNIMS morgue.

Up-Pradhan stabbed to death: A man stabbed one Up-Pradhan to death at Sagolband Moirang Hanuba Leirak, Imphal West district under Lamphel police station at around 1.30 pm today.

Up-Pradhan Pheiroijam Kundaleima (63) of Sagolband Moirang Hanuba Leirak was stabbed by Pheiroijam Boy (31) s/o Premkumar at around 1.30 pm.

She was rushed to Shija Hospitals and Research Institute but doctors declared her brought dead.

Soon after the incident, Boy fled away.

With the victim's body taken to RIMS mortuary, a case has been registered at Lamphel police station.
