Imphal, January 07: The resignation of Khangabok Block Congress Committee president L Bachu (Rameshwar) would not only strengthen the Congress party but also ensure sure success of its candidate in the Constituency, claimed the Khangabok BCC president in-charge Md Minhazuddin while speaking to reporters today.

Disclosing that Bachu did not intimate his resignation to the BCC officials, Minhazuddin asserted that Bachu's resignation was motivated by his consideration for personal gains.

There is no question of Bachu's resignation affecting Congress poll prospects in Khangabok constituency, he said while claiming that it would only strengthen the position of the party.

Rejecting the statement of the former BCC president that 150 active members and 3000 primary members have resigned from BCC along with him, Minhazuddin clarified that there were only 105 active members and 2875 primary members in Khangabok BCC.

The president in-charge further disclosed that the BCC had been considering to expel Bachu because of his conspicuous absence from 14 Block level meetings and political conferences.

Taking part in the press meet, Abdul Rehman of Sangaiyumpham who had contested in the Assembly elections three times earlier clarified that the people of Sangaiyumpham did not boycott Chief Minister O Ibobi who is also its incumbent MLA.

Asserting that Sangaiyumpham voters would be a deciding factor in the elections of Khangabok A/C, Abdul Rehman exuded confidence that O Ibobi would certainly get elected from the constituency.

Maintaining that contesting elections from both Khangabok and Thoubal Constituencies would not affect the prospect of O Ibobi in Khangabok Constituency, some Congress workers said that the decision of the Chief Minister to contest elections in Thoubal constituency too was impelled by the failure of the incumbent MLA to take up any worthwhile development work in the constituency in the last five years.

They further clarified that there was no case of any misunderstanding among the people of the two constituencies on the issue.
