Imphal, July 06: It sounds bizarre but matter has come to light that the School Education Department has been paying salaries to two teachers though they both occupy the same place of posting.

Disclosing this to The Sangai Express, a reliable source from the Education (S) Department said that this development came when a graduate teacher working under the DI of Moreh was promoted to the rank of a lecturer arid posted to another school.

Since this means that the post held earlier by the promoted lecturer had become vacant a replacement was posted to fill the void, said the source and added that things took a comical turn, when the newly promoted lecturer refused to report to his new place of posting.

Following the stalemate the Government ended up paying salaries to two teachers for the post of one.

Identifying the promoted lecturer who has refused to report to his new place of posting as Thongkhulun Haokip, the source said that he was serving as an Arts graduate teacher at Sajik Tampak Junior High School.

Along with this he also functioned as the headmaster in charge of Moreh Junior High School.

The graduate teacher was later promoted to the post of a lecturer and was subsequently transferred to Kakching Higher Secondary School.

Haokip however refused to report to his new place of posting and is carrying on as the head master in charge of Moreh Junior High School, said the source further.

Though Haokip has been promoted as a lecturer, his name has been included in the MGEL list under the DI of School, Moreh.

Following his promotion, the post left vacant at Sajik Tampak Junior High School was subsequently filled by one Worsen Anal, an Arts graduate teacher, said the source.

Worsen Anal was among those 138 Arts graduate teachers appointed by the Government on April 19 last year.

The Government had also appointed 289 Maths graduate teachers, 76 Biology graduate teachers and 159 General Science graduate teachers.

After his posting at Sajik Tampak Junior High School, the DI of School, Moreh has been releasing the salaries of two teachers for the same post, said the source and added that suspicion has been raised whether the DI in question here has been releasing the salaries with the full knowledge of the reality or not.

Questions have also been raised whether there are other such cases in the hill districts or not, said the source further.

Since the matter has been highlighted to the Vigilance Department, a probe has started against the DI, said the source further.
