Kid's murder : Keirao tense for 2nd day

Imphal, January 04 2008: Keirao remained tense for the second consecutive day today, following the ghastly murder of a young boy Md Wahidur (15) at Urup Ching, whose badly mutilated body was body was discovered on the morning of January 2 .

According to a police source, a large number of people from Urup, Keirao and the surrounding areas gathered and soon tried to storm Irilbung police station demanding the identification and punishment of the killers.

Cops amid smoke of tear gas shells fired to disperse the mob at Keirao

Swinging into action to bring the situation under control, Imphal East police personnel fired a number of tear gas shells in which at least four people were injured.

Significantly a similarly uprising was witnessed yesterday after a huge crowd tried to storm the Irilbung police station demanding the arrest of the killers.

According to another source, Imphal East police commandos rushed to the spot on receiving information that a huge crowd had gathered at Keirao Litan Makhong.

The police commandos were however driven back till Irilbung market by the crowd who pelted stones and used catapults.

Additional police force had to be rushed in and the crowd was dispersed by the cops who fired a number of tear gas shells as well as mock bombs.

The crowd was finally dispersed at about 2.30 pm.

The police were on alert till late in the evening, keeping a sharp eye out for any eventuality.

SP of Imphal East Th Radheshyam also personally came to the place to take stock of the situation.

On the other hand the three youths who were picked up for questioning yesterday were released today.

Another three youths were picked up today for questioning.

Police source said that investigation is on into the brutal killing of the 15 year old boy.

The persons who were injured in the police crackdown included a 60 year old woman identified Nganbi Bibi (60) of Urup and Rejiya (21).They along with two other women were to RIMS but were discharged after first aid.
