Imphal, June 02: Romen Yumnam of Manipur has become the first NDA cadet who has been honoured with President's Gold Medal award from the North East region.

The prestigious award was handed over to him by Union Defence Minister AK Antony during the passing out parade of the 114th batch of National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Pune held on May 31.

Over and above this Romen Yumnam was the parade commander of the passing out parade of 286 officers and around 574 junior cadets of the Academy's 114th batch.

Born on March 13, 1987 at Langmeidong Maning Mayai Leikai of Thoubal district, Roman cleared the written examination of NDA in September 2004 and after coming out successfully in the interview conducted over a period of five days at Allahabad by the Survey Selection Board of NDA in February 2005, he started his three-year training on June 27 of the same year.

Among other achievements, Romen has also been honoured with the title of the Best Cadet Medal (144th course) and the Best in Outdoor Training Medal.

During the course of his training, he was also honoured with the Gold medal of the most promising boxer in 2006, most scientific boxer of the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun in 2007 besides clinching the runner up title in the Buxy Cup Golf and bronze medal in 1500 race in the competition of NDA Pune in the same year.

Aspiring to dedicate his life to the cause of the integrity of the country, Romen said he joined the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun as a gentleman cadet on July 13 this year for undergoing specialised advance training for one year.
