Following incessant rain since last night water at the Nambul River which flows through the heart of the capital city overflowed flooding Uripok and large areas of Khwairamband Bazar.
Shamumakhong was knee deep under water since this afternoon.
The problem faced by the people of the locality was further compounded by the curfew which severely restricted people�s movement.
IFCD staff could not be contacted due to the curfew.As of 6.30 pm today the water level at Nambul river had raised to an alarming 782.175 meters which is well above the flooding stage.
The overflowing water inundated major portions of Lamboi Khongangmakhong, Uripok, Khwairamband Bazar, Sagolband Salam Leikai and Moirang Leirak bus parking.
Many houses have also been flooded.
River water also overflowed near Uripok Laikhurembi inundating the Uripok-Kangchup road.
Till late in the evening the water level at the Nambul River was alarmingly high.
A telephonic call to the PWD office where a flood control room has been set up was received by the chowkidar of the office.
He informed the panic stricken people of the affected areas that all the employees have left after the curfew relaxation period ended.
IFCD chief engineer and SEs were contacted at their residences.
When asked about the flood they answered that there is nothing much they can do due to the curfew.
