Imphal/Moreh, February 01 2019: At least 40 girls mostly teenagers, who were probably brought for sale at different cities of South Asian countries were today rescued by combined team of Manipur Alliance for Child Rights (MACR) and Tengnoupal Police under the Supervision of District SP Dr..SIbomcha from Moreh town.

A middle aged Nepali man who is suspected to be the trafficker was also picked up by the police team.

2 other girls suspected to be among the trafficked girls were also rescued today from a Hotel in Imphal along with two other Nepali boys by a team of city police OC N.Ingocha.

The 4 of them are being under verification process.

Talking to Imphal Times, Convenor of MACR, Montu Ahanthem said that a Nepal based NGO , Maiti Nepal had sent an intimation to the Delhi Women Commission regarding trafficking of large number of Nepali girls towards India in the middle week of January this year.

Following that, NGOs and government machineries across the country were alerted and the Delhi Women Commission rescued 3 women from the nation's capital.

On being questioned the three revealed that other women who have been trafficked had travel towards Manipur to cross at Myanmar.

After the information has been forwarded to the Manipur Alliance for Child Rights, the members acted immediately and along with the help of police team they conducted search and rescue operation of the trafficked girls.

As Moreh town has a porous boundary with Myanmar, MARC also alerted the Tengnoupal Police regarding the Matter.

SP of the district Dr.Ibomcha without making any delay conducted search operation at Moreh town.

Checking at border gate have been intensified and source said that around 10 Nepali girls who possessed documents had already cross the border.

Report reaching here said that during the search operation conducted at Moreh town since early morning the police team rescued 16 girls who were planning for deportation towards Myanmar.

As the hunt for the trafficked girls continue 4 more teenagers were also rescued along with a male adult from a Hotel at Moreh.

And later at evening 9 more girls were rescued by the police team.

Report added that among the 40 girls, some seemed older which suggested being traffickers.

The police acted on tip top as photographs of all those girls trafficked had been sent by the Maiti Nepal, the NGO which alerted the Indian machineries.

Convenor of MACR, Ahanthem Montu, talking to Imphal Times said, "This is a major rescue operation at which without the help of police it would have been impossible" .

When asked about what are the authority going to do with the rescued girls, Montu said those victim of flesh trade will be accommodated at Ujwala Home and those traffickers will be deal by police under the law of the land.

He also added that procedure to deport the victim girls will be done as per the law of the land after intimation with the Nepal government.
