Ibobi promises Jananeta Irabot statue

Imphal, September 30 2016: Chief Minister O Ibobi has promised to install a statue of Jananeta Irabot at a suitable place in honour of the glory of Irabot and in the interest of future generations.

The Chief Minister was speaking at the 120th birth anniversary of Hijam Irabot held today at MDU Hall under the aegis of the Jananeta Hijam Irabot Birthday Celebration Committee.

Ibobi hailed Jananeta Hijam Irabot as a social activist, a political activist, a social reformer and a pioneer in myriad fields.

His exploits and fame are being acknowledged and honoured by more and more people not only in Manipur but also in the entire North East region and the country at large.

Irabot was a staunch champion of equality among mankind.

Had he lived a little longer, his aspirations and vision could have been passed on to the future generations in a more concrete manner, added the Chief Minister.

Honouring the great leaderwould be meaningful when the present generation work collectively to fulfil his vision and aspirations, Ibobi stated.

In honour of another great patriot Bir Tikendrajit, the State Cabinet adopted a resolution to re-name Tulihal Airport as Bir Tikendrajit International Airport and the same resolution has been forwarded to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Ibobi added.

Revenue, Forest, Law and Legislative Affairs Minister I Hemochandra remarked that Jananeta Irabot occupies a big chapter in the history of Manipur.

Newer insights about the life and works of Irabot are being discovered even though he lived for only 55 years.

It was Irabot who first sowed the seed of a democratic ideology on the soil of Manipur.

Irabot was always committed to the idea of a united Manipur and it would not be right to paint Irabot with any political colour, Hemochandra asserted.

He then called upon all to work collectively in order to fulfil the aspirations of Jananeta Irabot irrespective of differences in political ideologies and affiliations and make Manipur a peaceful and progressive State.

Earlier, the Chief Minister led the gathering in paying floral tributes to Jananeta Irabot.

Later prizes were distributed to winners of the painting competition held on September 26 in connection with the Irabot commemorative month.

Jananeta Hijam Irabot Birthday Celebration Committee chairman Meitram Shamu and convenor Kshetrimayum Shanta and JD-U Manipur president M Tombi were also present at the function.
