The Echo After Forever
Nicholas Khundrakpam *
Life is a river beneath restless skies,
And love, like moonlight, trembles on its tide.
We wander like shadows through borrowed years,
With silent storms sleeping inside.
Time is a thief with tender hands,
Stealing our summers, soft and slow.
Yet love leaves lanterns in the dark,
Where forgotten feelings still softly glow.
We bloom like roses against the rain,
Knowing each petal must someday fall.
Still, hearts build homes from fragile hopes,
As though forever belonged to us all.
So, love like fire, though ashes await,
And live like dawn before daylight dies.
For life is a breath between two silences,
And love is the echo that survives.
Writer's Note: The poem reflects on the fragility of life and the enduring nature of love. Life is portrayed as a river that constantly moves forward, while love becomes a light that remains even through darkness and loss.
It reminds us that everything is temporary, like flowers that bloom only to wither. Yet, despite knowing that endings are inevitable, we continue to love, hope, and cherish each moment.
Ultimately, the poem suggests that life may be fleeting, but the memory and meaning of love can survive beyond time, separation, and even death.
