Dirty Dancing

By Loya Maisnam *

Obsession in terms of vibrant & glittering dress codes and, moreover the flamboyant kitchen fashion; automated maroon bikes and red cushion over the SUV cars; billion dollars perceptions of ten-hundred-thousands of lacs in bank balances; enjoyed travelling across thousand miles aboard and what not we have tested, through and done! All these gave birth from the worst muddiest soil of the third-world country's remotest eastern most side of the North East India.

Have a look at the streets, roads, highways and, smell & test the flamboyant winds patronaged with muddy molecules contaminated with the noxious bacteria, diseases, germs, etc.; many hazardous smokes & gases exhausted from vehicles and entry level air conditioning machines & CFC exhausting devices responsible for depleting ozone layer are sinfully marinated for a dawn to global health race.

Here, at the mean time I do not mind to satire and wit the ironic stereotypical situation of the bacteria, diseases, germs and laden winds sarcastically dancing salsa on the air like the dirty dancing.

Once the system has gone down, the nation became fractured so this is the basic political state of affairs in reality and the ground rules keep going like a mad dog and at last it left nothing to be pronounced by the victimized people. When a system sticks and stand upon the rules of system whatever the circumstances and condition prevailed; let the internal security disturbed, let the law-and-order be descended, let the hands of a strong foreign diplomacy infiltrates through meantime and let anything be happened, who stand and control at last is the system. When the system and the nation became fractured then the glittering marble roads shall be no longer smooth; the chips of the broken route would mingle up and began dancing tango with the loose impurities like the dirty dancing.

Oh! My beloved land!

You have been fighting thousand years for the sake of this piece of territory; you have been struggling countless tormented winds, frozen winters and the belligerent heats of sun only for sake of this present day generation; you have hidden with the battered and darkest nights over the last hundred of decades, for your act of generosity what we are paying you in return is of fratricidal war, ethnic cleansing and homicidal system.

The present day world's largest democratic legislative nation over one billion plus people by the year 2000-2001 has nothing to do with greatest imitated constitutional frames borrowed from Swiss, Britt and Washington's land, because the written constitutions are so well framed but yet the elitism and capitalism rules from head to grass-root level.

Likewise, the unsung region of the North East States, now so called Manipur, also stands above the highest decree though minority in many terms, but she still liveth beneath the same constitutional principles of the great nation. The law-and-order situation of the state is ceaselessly in chaos and in turmoil since Manipur merged into India on 29th September 1949, underground outfits are strengthening each decade and in regards hundred thousand crores sums of money are invested in the name of insurgency, yet we see no situation go down into a solution.

Development is far away yet somehow the Special Plan Assistance never left their thousand crores of rupees in estimated budget for their development gazette in every five year plan. Money oriented political leaders and sections of people of the state still never see that we all are criminals if we analyze by applying in terms of the theory of Mafiasm, as you know that you can't go beyond the system within.

Let us see how the present day people are blindly walking through some of the darkest roads in south east Asia:

A. French backed Sewage Project has almost finish but the noxious hazards inflicting the eighteen lacs people of Manipur, we don't know how far this project outcome will be delivered in terms of wholesome benefit, but one thing we can sure is of blowing airborne diseases ;

B. You go adjacent to the Khuyathong Pukhri Mapal traffic Island, it's inevitable that you will be appreciative to find the tag mark of public urinal-vomiting passion of scented stench;

C. Trespass over the Nagamapal road you will face the dirtiest long sewage garden rounded up every weekend by the Imphal Municipal Council;

D. Test the half kilometer long journey basement to flyover road, you will see dancing, dancing & dancing of the contaminated fog of sand, laden mud and noxious gases exhausted from vehicles, vehicles which are control by the Manipur Pollution Control Board and Transport Dept.;

E. Experience the Nambul Mapal Wahengbam Leikai road till the traffic island of Keishampat Junction, you will find the crowded bus terminus over the half of the one-lane road crippled with the Diesel Auto, Rickhsaw, newly invented accident prone Tata-magic van and the UVs, classic Car & Bikes, which is ironically just behind the residential backyard road;

F. See through and you will find dirty - dirty and dirty in every nooks and corner, and every avenue of the Imphal town. Look!!! Have a test drive from Mantripukhri via Chingmeirong crossing - Ashoka Resort lane - BOC ( 24 X 7 swirling of worst muddy winds, you won't be able to open your eyes, if so, then you have an accident) crossing - through Kangla gate (there you will find auto rickshaw terminus just adjacent to the gate of great Kangla fort)- and go, go & go!

Everywhere what you will find is muddy roads, sewage garden on the road sides, smell that are obviously health hazards and moreover the unsystematic town planning. There, you will find no traffic rules, but yes! indeed you will find traffic police begging for the office hour to finish at 2:30 sunset above the dilapidated tiny traffic island over the muddy junction;

You will find as if law-enforcement Agencies does rebate their rules of pros - cons and dos & don't, oouchh! remember, they are too fast and furious as they are always on high blood pressure as if they are engaged by a SWAT's/Marine commandos' swift action. There, we will encounter mask-men vehicles and the black siren auto-rickshaw with no timing to be go through over the silly roads enforced by the state's agency, so this tend to corrupt ourselves everyday.

These are the factual day-to-day trend in our fractured land of elitism and translucent post-modern capitalism. I am very much mindful how people of the land of jewel instantly enjoying over a million dollar dreams by leaving the idealism for a towards generation by victimizing even the unborn the pillars of the land.

Yes! I have started counting the days to be rained, a sand-less muddy flowing drainage will see everywhere with no ways to flow and nowhere. Town planning has almost been corrupted and I don't even see when they starts functioning and where they end. It is very irony that rain battered state has no provision for a good drainage neither a policy to systematize tiny rivers streaming through the Imphal town.

And, moreover, troublesome landslide will inevitably give awesome deformity to the twenty seven lacs peoples by intervening the one & only lifeline National Highway No. 39's - 205 Km long Imphal Dimapur route. In a year, eight months long rain afflicted muddy land with the season's wind blowing downwards east to west through the route of alluvial terrace will begin dancing with no bother and forever waltzing like dirty dancing.

"Dear friends of hills and valley", I think everyone has once been seeing through it - sounds great! Isn't it? But yet I see no sign of brotherhood, a brotherhood whom born from a same womb with no way of parting even a single drop of blood. There is a saying that 'we are living in a same village' - 'and the voice of globalization', but yet again I see we can't live in a same village whilst the men suppresses men with no feelings & sense of sympathy over the emergence, we are almost in urgency for the last 59 years since India got independence.

My thirty years experience cannot lie over the ground level reality of the state; I was born at the heart of Imphal town since then I am still seeing what I saw for the last thirty years; it is not that making a flyover and freed our last castle from occupational forces is the landmark of development and it is not that establishing couple of law enforcement agency with different banners is the sign of improvement. I still remember the quotation that hang over Japanese Embassy - "In my thirty years, I don't matter as to how my hair looks, what jeans I wore or the shoes I bought, what I matter is of what I have done in thirty years".

Reassuring rationality and a freedom of development is now only a dream in my state when the world climbs beyond skyscrapers with no bound: I am not very certain by producing the resources of data literature, I am not much convinced that there will be a meritocracy government until present day system ends through and henceforth, I am firm that we cannot stand above landslide victory of elite govern post-capitalism but what I can assured you is of Wars of cold, ethnic cleansing, homicide, intelligencia's genocide and fratricidal wars will saturates with dirty socio - economic - political and the most influencing militarism ballets like the dirty dancing.

Let us have a dream, a dream which has no dirty, dirty that will not beget a sickness to the peoples, a sickness which is not assured of insomnia. And let us not be befooled by this dirty dancing, but we rather wake and raise our voice.
