E-Pao! Essay - Suryayog Beckons Manipur

Suryayog Beckons Manipur

By:- Dr H. Debala Devi *

I deem it my privilege to introduce the recently developed art of suryayog for the first time to the vibrant people of Manipur, my sweet motherland. It is my fervent hope that people will practice it whole-heartedly for their holistic health.

The sun, the phenomenon of brightness and radiance is a source of immense energy. Its rays are healing the body, the mind and the spirit. The specialty of the sun is that it is visible. Take the light of the sun as a boon for you due to its various benefits. The sun and its vast cosmic energy can change, arrange, reduce, remove, balance and organize the chemical, bioelectrical and biomagnetic powers found in each of us.

Surayog is a simple technique, which draws the curative energies from the sun for our physical, mental and spiritual health. The surya means sun. Yog means to yoke together or to merge. Hence surayog literally means to merge with the sun -become one. Solar energy is renewable, non-polluting and safe. It is also a magnetic field of the earth.

It gives light, warmth, energy through food and directly renewable, food through photosynthesis, water (evaporation of water bodies), time (that is day and night calendar) motivator (when the sun rises we start the day and work), Wisdom (removes darkness - ignorance) Gayetri Mantra, Guru, Duty- conscious. Every day the sun gives us radiance, non-stop, impartially shines on one and all, sacrificer-burns itself up to give us light and energy, regulator - body clock through pineal gland, temperature of the world, orbit of the planets, magnetic field of the north pole, finally gratitude-respect love for mother nature.

Suryayog is the universal practice, as sun doesn't discriminate between the rich and the poor, man and woman, saint or sinner, Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Jews. It teaches punctuality and promotes unity, harmony and brotherhood. It also stimulates us to preserve and love our mother nature.

One of the techniques for suryayog-
1. Time - sunrise or sunset (early morning sunrise is the best)
2. Place - a place where sun is visible properly
3. Dress - white or light colored dress
4. Coin - any coin (but silver or copper is the best as it has more electromagnetic powers)
5. A cloth or a mat to sit
6. Sun symbol (I) Place hands in Jnan Mudra (tip of thumb touching tip of index finger)
(ii) Weave the other fingers together between the hands inside the palm
(iii) Touch the fingertips together
(iv) Link the right thumb and index fingers with the left - so they interlock (sun symbol or surya mudra)
(v) Hold this sun symbol firmly against the stomach below the navel, palm up

Technique

1. Sit on any meditative pose on the mat or a cloth keeping the spine straight facing to the sun

2. Gazing - look at the sun for a moment; remember your gurus or your teachers; say or think of the sun " you are my first guru my nearest and dearest friend, you know what I need" or just praise and enjoy the beauty of the sun. Rub your forehead and place the coin in the third eye position (a little above in between the eyebrows)

3. Place hands in sun symbol position touching your body and look at the sun.

4. Breathe slowly and deeply through the nostrils closing the mouth. With each inhalation feel the love energy from the sun coming into your third eye through the coin, breathe out all negativity (lust, anger, attachment, pride, jealousy and greed) and problems -physical as well as mental from the solar plexus (manipur chakra- the area near to naval region). Repeat these affirmations coordinating it with your breath, i.e. "Love in (truth, righteousness, peace, love, non-violence and faith) - Negativity out". Stay in this gazing position for 10 - 20 minutes

Note: If sun is too bright and find it difficult to gaze, bend your forehead and gage through the Third Eye.

The new practitioner should slowly increase the gazing time.

B MEDITATION

1. Close your eyes softly and see the light in your third eye

2. Breathe in love energy from the third eye

3. Breathe out the love energy through out the body

Affirmation -LOVE IN - LOVE THROUGH OUT THE BODY. Stay in this pose for some time.

4. Now direct the love- light energy into your heart, feel your heart with curative energies as the blood flows through the heart, each molecule each cell is energized and illumined. Move this energized blood to all parts of the body. Wherever this love light energy touches, the parts of the body become healthy and strong. Experience the light everywhere .See that your body is full of light, the light around you, and the light is in you. You are the light. Experience the healing energy and peace in you. Stay at this pose for sometime.

5.Release the hand position and with eyes closed, bend down and touch the mother earth with your palms and forehead. Take 2-3 deep breaths and let everything go. Surrender to the absolute, the supreme power, come back to namaskar position, rub hands together and palm the eyes. Feel this healing energy entering your eyes and bring hands in folded prayer position, bless yourself; wish everyone around you with a loving smile and happiness.

Note -Don't look at the sun at other time of the day only at the sunrise and sunset.

Medical benefits supporting the suryayog

The sun not only sustains all the life but also sustains the earth. It provides food for the plant through photosynthesis, thereby all animals and human beings eat the plants.

The sun is 1.3 million times bigger than the earth. Sunlight coming to earth represents about only about one part of 2 billion of the total amount of energy radiating from the sun and only 1% of the electromagnetic spectrum is thought to be perceived by the eye. Yet it is sufficient to supply our planet with about 4.69-million horsepower per square meli.

The visible portion of the electro magnetic spectrum, containing all the colors of the rainbow from violet to red is a most important key to human functioning and evolution. Sunlight has several types of energy visible and invisible rays. Visible light -7 colors i.e. violet-indigo-blue-green-yellow, orange and red. Invisible are infrared rays, microwaves, X rays, TV and radio waves. Other invisible rays are cosmic rays, gamma rays, and ultra violet rays. This visible light is seen as 7 colors. Each of these colors has a distinct healing effect on the body, often associated with the glands /chakras/organs in a particular body region.

Warming infrared -the warming infra red rays of the sun or heat from various sources are useful in the treatment of neuralgia, neuritis, arthritis, and sinusitis .in fact, the energy that the plant has stored in the form of fats, carbohydrates and proteins.

Antiseptic ultra violet -the ultra violet rays are antiseptic and are capable of killing bacteria, viruses, fungi, yeast, moulds and mites in air and water and on surfaces. The UV light also kills germs on our skin. This makes sunlight a useful treatment for many skin diseases, such as diaper, rash, athelets foot, psoriasis, acne, boils, and impetigo

Vitamin-UV converts ergostrol in the skin into vitamin D.Ten minutes of daily exposure to sunlight will supply us with all the vitamin D that we need. The principal function of the vitamin D is to promote calcium absorption in the gut and calcium transfers across cell membrane. This contributes to strong bones and a contented nervous system, 10 minutes of Delhi Exposure to Sunlight will supply us with all the vitamin D. that we need.

The principle function of vitamin D is to promote calcium absorption in the gut and calcium transfer across cell membranes. This contributes to strong bones and a contented nervous system. Low vitamin D is associated with several autoimmune diseases including multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, thyroiditis and Cohn's diseases. Resent laboratory experiments suggested vitamin D can also prevent the growth and spread of cancerous tumors. Ultra violet light converts cholesterol in the skin to vitamin D.

Body Regulation: - Ultra violet coming into our eyes stimulate the pineal gland, which helps to regulate our circadian rhythm (day & night activity cycles).

SUN -THE GREATEST HEALER Perhaps one of its greatest benefits may be the strengthening of the immune system. Fungal infections of the skin are cured or go into remission after sunlight therapy. Dr. Esther John of the note Carolina cancer center as found that as a moderate exposure to sunlight very well may lower the risk of breast cancer by 30 to 40%. It has been found that lights influence on various physiological and psychological function, moderate sunlight may lower profound the influence moot and fertility in woman. PMShas been proven extensively to be quite responsive to light treatment .

It appears that light affects serotonin level in the brain., which will elevate or improve mood . Women receiving adequate levels of sunlight report less depression, fewer moods swings better sleep, more energy, increase concentration and greater mental alertness.

DEPPRESSION A, SAD, SCHIZOPHRENIA-ACCORDING TO DR NORMAN ROSENTHALOF THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF MENTAL HEALTH "light, a versatile therapeutic tool, has been shown scientific ally to have beneficial effects in treating depression, and suicidal tendencies the onset of spring gives thousands of people relieve from "seasonal affected disorder "or SAD-this miserable condition is a suppression of serotonin experienced by many who are deprived of sunlight during the winter months.

According to the National Cancer Institute, in an analysis of death certificates from 24 states over an 11 years period, the NCI researchers found that those who lived in the sunniest part of the country and those exposed to the most sunlight through their jobs had significant lower rates of breast and colon cancer than matched controls.

Worldwide the lowest rates for breast and colon cancer occur in the Caribbean, south and Central America and South Asia. Countries in these regions are within 20 degrees of the equator, where the sun's rays are particularly strong.

The NCI researchers theorize that SUNLIGHT offers cancer protection through its contribution of vitamin D.

SUN AND DIABETICS
Sunlight has a tremendous effect in controlling diabetes by lowering the concentration of glucose in the blood. Vitamin D and calcium stimulates pancreas secretion of insulin, which lowers blood sugar. The effect is dramatic in diabetes.

SKIN
Improves circulation, wound healing. Sunlight produces vitamin D3 on skin, which helps nervous system, muscular system and immune system. It also stimulates production of keratin, which protects against germs and injuries. It increases production of white blood cells and T cells to aid body's abilities to fend off infections and virus.

PINEAL GLAND
Light sensitive, activated by light passing through ice onto optic nerve. With light, Pineal Gland secretes Serotonin, which has beneficial effects on body and mind. It also activates other glands to secrete other beneficial hormones. Without light Pineal Gland secretes Melatonin which is for sleep. Less light = higher Melatonin which can result in mental depression, laziness, more sleep, hardening of Pineal Gland = greater cancer risk.

PITUITARY GLAND
Stimulated by serotonin secretion from Pineal Gland, it secretes MSH (Melanocyte Stimulate Hormone), which increases body metabolism. Also produces luteinizing hormone, which stimulates sex hormones.

THYROID GLAND
Stimulated by Serotonin secretion from Pineal gland, increases body metabolism, especially fats.

ENERGY INCREASES WHILE EATING LESS FOOD-
As cells utilize Light directly for production of energy.

BLOOD-
increases Oxygen and nutrients to cells Light prevents clumping of blood cells allowing more oxygen and nutrients to be carried to tissues.

TOXIC CHEMICALS IN BODY ARE REMOVED QUICKER
Light increases enzymes to metabolize toxic chemicals up to 10-15% faster.

BUILDS UP TRACE MINERALS
Light helps to metabolize and utilize important trace minerals. Copper, Manganese, Nickel.

EXERCISE- QUICKER RECOVERY
Lowers pulse rate improver cardiovascular fitness by 20 %, removes lactic acid from muscles, increase Oxygen absorption.

CHILDRENS BENEFITS
Students exposed to more sun =50% less colds, more concentration, and less discipline problems.

OSTEOPOROSIS
Greater calcium absorption, making bones stronger.

CHOLESTEROL DECREASES
by 50%in skin and 9 to 10 % in blood .no light =squalene is converted to cholesterol ,with light to vitamin D.

Converted to cholesterol, with light to vitamin D.

ARTERIOSCLOROSIS-improves heart, blood supply-lowers EKG, improves blood profiles, protects against hardening of arteries.

ARTHRITIES-removes uric acid from system. Improves joint and muscle cramping, stiffness and pain.

Other benefits -surya yog will increase concentration power, memory power. Will power. Regular practice of suryayog finds that inner qualities are mysteriously transformed. Negative qualities are positively affected by the rays of the sun coming through our eyes and into our mind and soul. It will bring unconditional love for Mother Nature and everybody. It cures lots of diseases and gets inner peace.

Suryayog creates the condition within us to join with the external sun to expand our consciousness and awareness of the life giving light of truth, wisdom, and love within us.

PRECUATION-REMEMBER THAT FREQUENT SHORTEXPOSURE ARE NOT ONLY SAFER BUT ARE MORE BE3NIFICIAL THAN A PROLONG DOSE OF SUNLIGHT. ALSO, EARLY MORNING SUNSHINE HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS THE MOST BENIFICIAL .AN ABUNDANCE OF fruits, vegetables and whole grains in the diet provides substances that help prevent the formation of free radicals and protect against their harmful effects and are thus important for the body to properly handle exposure to light.

Let us spread the message of suryayog to the people around so that they benefit by maintaining love, peace and harmony with one another and the universe by removing negativities and taking in positivities. We shall make the world a better place with the light of the sun.

Let my motherland Manipur get peace maintaining physical, mental and spiritual health with the light of the sun.
