It's been almost six years that I haven't visited Manipur my lovely homeland.

Even though I'm far from home I never feel lonely, my job is such that I have to be always updated and informed and this resulted in keeping me closer with the people of Manipur and the other world.

To get connected with the people and the land, first thing I do when I wake up is to log on to Manipur websites ( esp. e-pao.net ) and see what is happening and what not is happening.

As soon as I open the websites of Manipur, its just like I'm opening the main gate of my house welcoming my friends as well as near and dear ones for a chit-chat, its just like I'm at home.

First thing, I found out from all the news and updates of Northeast is that killings, bandhs and corruption is becoming a part and parcel of life as well as a part of the tradition of Northeast especially Manipur, Assam and Nagaland.

In a developing and diverse society if these things continue to happen for long the situation of these states will worsen day by day. We as a citizen should start thinking and put our knowledge and wisdom to solve this problem in a meaningful manner.

Whatever it is, the main thing that we, as a citizen of Northeast, must concern is about the political, social and economic scenario of this region. Comparing with the other states of India we are far behind in terms of socio-economic development.

Whenever we come across any of the mainland of India and start our discussion we always boast of our culture and tradition. But today these culture and tradition has the least priority on the way to development.

If we are really proud of our tradition and culture why there is no respect of our self as well as for our cultural values in the northeast.

Just take the case of the states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, they never speak of higher values of culture or tradition though very poor they are very aware of the fact that in a developing world looking towards the path of progress is the way to prosper life and because of this thought they are developing like anything.

According to the Vision 2020 document, prepared by the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy on behalf of the North-Eastern Council (NEC), per capita gross state domestic product (GSDP) of NorthEast India, comprising eight states, is 31% less than the national average.

The states are Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim.

In 2004-05, the entire region's GSDP, a measure of the standard of living of people, stood at Rs 18,027 against the national average of Rs 25,968. We can just analyse and imagine from the fact how we are so backward in terms of economic.

Still, we are not late. We must look towards the path of socio-economic development and only we can live to the level of developed country. It is our sole duty now to work towards the progress society.

Corruption and killings will continue to dwell in Manipur and NorthEast as a whole but continue doing your work towards the path of development and progress society and in the near future the social sickness like corruption, unemployment and killings will stop.

I, as a young Journalist, always wanted to see the Manipur or Northeast as a heavenly place and you too must be feeling the same. The only thing I could contribute towards the development of these states is to open a platform of global discussion of this social sickness and I hope many will support my simple idea.

Nothing is late you can also work towards the path of development so hurry up if you want to see you - young generation alive and kicking.
