Someone here is about to break my neck if I don't write you a feedback. so here goes nothing.....

First of all of kudos to you for a well written article. But have you ever considered the other side of the coin. I mean, if we look at the issue from a different perspective it would appear quite the opposite.

Your argument about Manipuris leaving Manipur to study outside and thus creating a huge financial burden and outflow from the state is true but it is also true that opportunities for a proper and sound education, especially when it comes to higher education, is sorely lacking in the state. Of course when such people who are part of the manipuri diaspora let themselves, their family & the state down, they are doing a great dis- service to themselves and everybody & anybody.

But that is not the point I want to raise here. You have acknowledged the state of the economy of the state. Anybody with half a mind can deduce the fact that employment generation in the state in next to nil.

Under the prevalent circumstances, what guarantee is there that if someone returns back home that he/she can land a job that is fulfilling and satisfying. And also whether is there any kind of job available in the state, where a person can put his/her skills and knowledge to good use and realize their fullest potential. I sincerely do not believe such is the case at present.

Now if we consider the fact that there are pockets it the country, notably kerala & gujarat, where their diaspora settled abroad & elsewhere have immensely contributed to the development of their native places either by way of remittance in forex or investment in the state. These are rich states who can afford to go without such largesses but for a small state like ours with no resource or industry worth its name to speak of, the effect would be fantastically positive.

And with each generation of professionals & executives that integrates into the mainstream, we create a mark for ourselves and light a way for the rest to follow. The world is truly a global village today and sadly we are not yet a part of it. We are getting and someday we will. but unless we learn to integrate and compete with the rest of the world, I don't see us getting anywhere.

People might argue here that Manipur is a net loser in the process because the knowledge and skill acquired outside the state by Manipuris does not contribute to or benefit the state. My answer is that development and its benefits should be viewed in the longer run not in the immediate future.

Give those who leave a chance to prove themselves to the world and lets pray they do succeed and Manipur shall reap the benefits of the whirlwind that is being sown today.

Ya, your article was cool. But the reality is that these problems exist all over the world. Its a criteria of a developing society. If you want to see the real problem there and then you need to know the main root from where all these crepts in. We are living in a society of hypocrites and non the least little did we know about ourself.

Can't change the world. Lets wait and see, for better world. You love manipur, we, manipuris, love manipur.

Lets be united within ourself and make manipur a destiny. "Its the survival of the fittest". Sometimes reality bites

Baahh.... Oohhh .... Just couldn't believe. Simply a heart winning writing.

I am lucky enough I am I incidentally read such a bright writing by a Manipuri. Those, who wants to see Manipur in a developed Manipur and par with her counterparts, would surely love Victoria's ideas. Honestly I am one of them.

I am reading Victoria's writing, I got emotional. It's quite strange and unnatural. But it seems, one of Manipur is damned seroius and have a broad knowledge about the predicaments and it's remedies for a serious Manipur. It's a welcoming change. An Ambassador from the ladies side predicaments just turned up. A big thumbs up ....Ambassador Victoria.

I don't need to be an astrologer to foretell the fate of Manipur if we don't change it's present regressive course. Victoria.. keep writing and keep Manipur the idle brains of Manipur because you just lightened up one of them. Do u know who is he? ...me

Be an able and practical Ambassador. You will be admired.

Well victoria..dats one helluva article...you have given a nice insight about the problems of our state. n you r right about each n every word....like you said the pace of development in our state is very slow..its practically nonexistent. But the tide will always turn.. We all feel the same about the problems you have highlighted in your article....our legal system,our insurgency problems,...n lots more which I need not mention....but on the brighter side it isnt so bad you know.. why today only we have heard in the news dat the centre is plannin to give some crores(forgot the exact figure) 4 the development in our state....n the visit by PM. all dat...N its gonna go on...right now we r not able to contribute to the development of our state but at the end we have to n we know dat...no matter where you studied whether US,UK,AUS....it ultimately comes back to one thing..we all love manipur n we r all manipuris.....n we know our birthright. Its a very good article n I m sure you r gonna get a lotta feedback. Just wait...wat we all have to remember is dat we all have to be optimists....our state is never gonna collapse as long as we r all together in it....your article will be like an eye opener....keep up de good work.....

Hi, I am John Galt speaking. I find your topic quite mind blowing as this this is the first topic which i had send suggestion while reading simultaneuosly because, your school of thought somewhat provoked me rather.

Well it is nice to hightlight new problem face by our new discovery of places apart from oldies. Actually , we are facing numerous problems inside a problems (Being a small state) have a numerous opportunities waiting with golden pot to strike.

Now, let's go straight to so call Manipuri society, neither our people work hard nor have any dreams to follow unlike our counterpart. Most of our middle class families send their kids to pursue further studies outside every year, out 100 students how many of them completed a formal course in their respective field and go for their earning their livehood after their cousrse.

I think the number is waffer thin and I found most of our people seems to enjoy their life in a Hip -Hop style (although we should enjoy but up to certain limit). We all enjoyed our life at the best including me , we misused our full liberty (being away from parents).

At our place , we dont have such freedom to express ouself at the best because, we are bound by certain moral police at our motherland. Even in terms of modern amenity, education institutions, talk about cyber cafe, mall culture, theme park we are much more lack behind.

Can we close our eyes for a momemt a think about "Why are these things not at our state?"

The answer is vey simple "Lack of honesty and Hard Work"

Let's go and get some help from those so call developed states in order to improve our state. Take the example of Gujaratis, maximum number of NRI in whole part of the world, they dont feel ashamed to do any types of work from sweeper in toilet to hospitals attendants to brilliant scholars, politician to businessmen to hoteliers in different walks of life.

That is why their state is developed. Those NRI contribute something to built their state or they came back to start their new business and flourised in their business, regenerate revenue and provide employment.

They never live on their past laurel, keeping walking till new their goal is reached. same is the case for Punjabi. Please refer reliance, nirma, bharti telecom, hero motor to name a few.

Now, let's come back to our own state, by applying your reverse brain-drain (hope not brain in drain), we have a huge pool of young talents in the field of sports, arts and culture, IT, Medicne, Filmmakers, Engineering, Dancers and Singers, Politics to contribute someting for your motherland.

I dont mind if you left your own state for earning, when your bag is full come back, do something for your homeland atleast if you wish to see a peaceful life , from a multiplex to a mall to walk with your love-ones and kids in evening.

I go through the article submitted by victoria on Brain Drain. Its really very nicely compiled and the expression are so clear.

I do come under the category of so called NRI staying in Singapore, born and brought up in Imphal with basic education, used to stay most of the time outside manipur for higher education and looking for greater opportunities.

Whenever you come back home that too for short duration, It really seems like coming to some alien nation with all sort of things you never encounter before like bandh, strikes etc. So I think it is very clear nobody will like to stay back in Manipur, so its time to think something on these issues.

Please convey my regards and encouragment to Victoria for writing such nice thoughts.

Hi Victoria,

I went thru your article and though the contents are not the first of its kind I appreciate the fact that you took serious thought and brought ways and means of tackling the predicaments faced by Manipuris.

We all know how concern many of us about Manipuri Diasporas, but in the present state of affairs the best is to leave and look for greener pasture, actually do we have a choice?

I have been away from home for more than 10 years now.

When I go back and see the pathetic conditions I don't encourage any outsider friend to consider Manipur as a tourist option, I myself is disgusted by the state of affairs.

I am in much pained when i have no security in my own home. That is another aspect altogether the reason for your article.

You have given a very positive approach and we would like each of us do consider to look for postive change in our mindset and turn the broken winds to fly again.
