Thadou People’s Declaration, 2025

Preamble:
Recognising the Thadou Convention, Guwahati - 2024, which reaffirmed that the Thadou constitute a distinct and sovereign ethnic community, separate from any association with the “Kuki” identity;
Gravely concerned by the escalating threats, acts of intimidation, and targeted violence against the Thadou people and their leaders advocating peace;
And solemnly honouring the supreme sacrifice of Thadou Martyr Nehkam Jomhao, who was brutally slain by Kuki militants for his unwavering commitment to Thadou identity and peaceful coexistence, and for his participation in the Road to Peace: Covenant of Community Understanding held in Imphal on 6th August, 2025;
We, the Thadou people, united and resolute, do hereby declare the following:
1. Cessation of Payments to Kuki Entities: Pursuant to the Thadou Convention, Guwahati - 2024, which affirms the Thadou as a free-standing ethnic group, we solemnly declare that:
a. No Thadou individual or household, in any region, shall henceforth make any payment in the form of tax, levy, or donation to any Kuki individual, organisation, or militant group.
b. This resolution is reaffirmed in honour of Martyr Nehkam Jomhao, whose life was taken for standing courageously in defence of truth, peace, and Thadou identity.
2. Formation of the Thadou Protection Committee (TPC): We hereby announce the establishment of the Thadou Protection Committee (TPC) – Special Task Force, as a lawful civil defence body entrusted with the following mandates:
a. To organise and safeguard the lives and property of the Thadou people;
b. To cooperate actively with all legitimate state and central security forces, including the Indian Army; and
c. To promote communal harmony, peace, and lawful order in all areas inhabited by the Thadou.
3. Declaration of Thadou Martyrs’ Day: Henceforth, the 13th of September shall be observed annually as Thadou Martyrs’ Day, in solemn commemoration of:
a. The courage and sacrifice of all Thadou martyrs who laid down their lives for the security, dignity, and future of the Thadou people; and
b. The burial of Martyr Nehkam Jomhao, whose death has become a symbol of collective sorrow, unity, and enduring resolve.
Our Pledge:
We, the Thadou people, united in purpose and spirit, solemnly pledge:
1. To resist and bring an end to all forms of intimidation, extortion, and coercion directed against our community;
2. To remain steadfastly loyal to the Republic of India, committed to its constitutional values and democratic spirit;
3. To uphold the principles of dialogue, peaceful coexistence, and mutual respect with all neighbouring communities, including Ahom, Meitei, Karbi, Dimasa, Bodo, Naga tribes, Zo-ethnic kin, and others; and
4. To unequivocally reject all ideologies of hatred, radicalisation, separatism, and communal supremacy.
Adopted on this 13th day of September, 2025, by the undersigned representatives of the Thadou people.
