Time
Nicholas Khundrakpam *
Oh, relentless tide, unyielding and vast,
A shadowed thief who unthreads the past.
With every moment, you carve and cleave,
Leaving behind what hearts cannot retrieve.
The voices that once sang, tender and near,
Now falter, dulled, as though veiled in fear.
Familiar faces dissolve like mist,
Contours fading where memory persists.
What cruel craftsman, with hands of stone,
Reshapes the world I had called my own ?
I beg you, leave the laughter, the light, untouched-
Some joys are too sacred to be disrupted so much.
You devour, and yet, you create,
An artisan bound to a merciless fate.
I grieve for the lost, defy the new,
Chained to shadows of a world I once knew.
And yet, perhaps, my heart is to blame,
For yearning still for a world unchanged.
Though you march onward, silent, sublime,
You remind me that change is the art of time.
