Hope
Shahnaz Islam *
Come, hope,
This porch awaits your steps,
And the door aches for your gentle call.
The air hums quietly
Every shadow trembling for your light.
I dream of you
Woven in silken threads of tender ache
Your touch is the promise of morning,
A balm for the wounds of the restless night.
Knowing you, me, everything is hope.
Love is hope. Life is hope.
The sun is hope,
Its golden arms reaching to cradle the earth.
The rain, too, is hope,
Falling like whispers, soft and steady.
Even a flower blooms
In a glass of water,
Its roots drinking from an invisible grace.
And in its fragile beauty, it teaches:
Even in stillness, life grows.
