DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
The most comforting memory from my childhood is of crawling into my grandmother's bed at night and listening to her stories. I remember how safe I felt lying underneath the mosquito net, draped over her bed, as gunshots fired outside in the distance.
I see this film as an interpretation of my grandmother's folklores, enveloped with the sights, sounds and smells I have long associated with Manipur -
Where the wind carries a song to gently break the stillness of the night;
Where firewood smoke evokes the whiff of a mother's hug;
Where dance and music celebrates the living, and the dead;
Where the green of the land camouflages its troubled soul.
'Boong' is my bitter-sweet memory of my home – Manipur.

DIRECTOR'S BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY
Lakshmipriya Devi aspired to tell stories, but chose never to direct one if the story did not come from within. That story organically emerged while seeking closure from a difficult part of her childhood, in Manipur – a place called 'home', in the north eastern corner of India.
A graduate in Economics Honours (Miranda House) and a post graduate in Mass Communications (MCRC, Jamia), she has drawn from her experience as a First Assistant Director in landmark Indian productions such as Luck by Chance, Talaash, PK, A Suitable Boy etc. to make her directorial debut with 'Boong'.
