With a total of 463 marks (92.6%), Commerce topper from TG Higher Secondary School Warepam Lidia Devi aims to become a successful businesswoman. She secured letter marks in five subjects.

Lidia was born to Warepam Opendro Singh and Warepam Medhapati Devi from Uripok Khu-manthem Leikai and studied at Heritage Convent from Class IV to X . Stating that her Class X results did not meet her expectations, Lidia maintained she wants to become a businesswoman, she said.

She is currently preparing for the CA Foundation exam which is slated for May 15.She credited her success to her parents and teachers. Her father is engaged in the business of machine-made incense sticks which he sells in the market to provide for his two children's education and other needs of the family. Lidia has an older brother.

Setting an example that collective hard work yields success, Tamphasana Girls Higher Secondary School student Wareppam Lidia has topped the Higher Secondary Examination (HSE) conducted by Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (CoHSEM) in commerce stream by securing a total of 463 marks out of 500.Lidia is the youngest daughter of Wareppam Opendro and Medhapati Devi of Uripok Khumanthem Leikai.

Opendro used to be a contract worker for LDA for some time but was laid off. Left with no choice, both he and his wife began making local incense (Meetei Dhoop) as a source of livelihood. For 14 years, he has been supplying the incense sticks to Khwairamband Keithel under the name, 'Imoinu Dhoop', which has now gained some recognition.

The money they earn from the humble family business is being used to fund the education for their two children. Speaking to newspersons on Friday, Lidia credited her success to her parents, school teachers and all those who have been guiding her till date.

The topper recounted that she was an average student till Class X but decided to change for the better and studied commerce. She specially loved the business field and because it was her subject of choice, she topped the school examinations. She expressed her wish to set up a charter accounting firm in the future.

Lidia's father Opendro said that bereft of proper education when young, he vowed to ensure that his children do not suffer in the future. He started making incense sticks after consulting with the mothers at Khwairamband market following his lay off from LDA.

He was able to feed his family and fund the education of his children for the past 14 years all due to the support of the people who loved his incense sticks.
