Sangai Ethnic Park has been conferred Asia's Best Civic Building Architecture Design award. The award was presented to Huidrom Design Studio which designed the park at the Asia Architecture Design Awards-2024 (AADA 2024) ceremony held at Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday.

Sangai Ethnic Park constructed by the Government of Manipur at the cost of around Rs 45 crore at Moirang Khunou, Bishnupur district was inaugurated on November 21, 2022 .

Winners of AADA-2024 were selected through a transparent evaluation system by a panel of 20 judges from different countries including Thailand, Italy and UAE over a period of around 10 months. There were over 1500 entries from different countries of Asia for AADA-2024 .

The competition was divided into different categories viz; Commercial Building Architecture Design, Residential Architecture Design, F&B Interior Design etc. Asia's Best Conceptual Architecture/Interior Design award was introduced this year.

Huidrom Design Studio's principal designer Suresh Huidrom said that architecture is no longer limited to designing a house or a township. Nowadays, it is like creating diversity in unity, he said. Sangai Ethnic Park is not just any physical space. It is a unique space which reflects the rich cultural heritage and traditions of Manipur, Suresh said.

Sangai Ethnic Park gives a comprehensive view and experience of the State's rich cultural heritage, traditions, crafts, rural lifestyle and the rich and varied cuisines at a single space. Sangai Ethnic Park is in a sense an ethnographic museum of Manipur, he said.

Apart from thanking AADA, Suresh conveyed gratitude to the Chief Minister, Directorate of Tourism and Manipur Police Housing Corporation Limited for making the project a success.
