Mr. Justice B.R. Gavai, Judge, Supreme Court of India visited Relief Camps at Churachandpur & Bishnupur districts
Manipur witness a historic event with the visit of 5(five) Hon’ble Judges of the Supreme Court of India where Hon’ble Mr. Justice B.R. Gavai, Judge, Supreme Court of India cum Executive Chairman, NALSA virtually inaugurated Free Legal Services Camps, Free Medical Camps and 4 Legal Aid Clinics from Churachandpur.
Hon’ble Mr. Justice B.R. Gavai is accompanied by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Vikram Nath, Judge, Supreme Court of India; Hon’ble Mr. Justice M.M. Sundresh, Judge, Supreme Court of India; Hon’ble Mr. Justice K.V. Viswanathan, Judge, Supreme Court of India; Hon’ble Mr. Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, Judge, Supreme Court of India;
Hon’ble Mr. Justice D. Krishnakumar, Chief Justice, High Court of Manipur; Hon'ble Mr. Justice A. Bimol Singh, Judge, High Court of Manipur cum Executive Chairman, MASLSA; Hon'ble Mr. Justice A. Guneshwar Sharma, Judge, High Court of Manipur & Hon'ble Mrs. Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu, Judge, High Court of Manipur.
The Mega Medical Camp were conducted in 106 Relief Camps covering the entire 290 different Relief Camps by clubbing adjoining relief camps together. Around 400 Medical doctors and 800 supporting staff were engaged for conducting the Mega Medical Camp for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
The 4(four) Legal Aid Clinics inaugurated today are Legal Aid Clinics at LMS Law College, Nongpok Sanjenbam, Thongkhong Laxmi Bazar, Imphal and Somdal village, Ukhrul.
The inaugural function was attended by Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, Judicial Officers, Senior Advocates, Members of the Bar, officials of District Administration, representatives of various departments, PLVs, internally displaced persons of the relief camp and representatives of print and electronic media.

Shri Alek Muivah, Member Secretary, MASLSA in his welcome speech stated that stated that NALSA under the charismatic leadership of the Executive Chairman Hon’ble Mr. Justice B.R. Gavai has been rendering unwavering support to MASLSA. With the active support and guidance of NALSA, MASLSA has opened Special Legal Aid Clinics at 265 Relief Camps. Further, there are 372 Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) in these Special
Legal Aid Clinics besides 10 Data Entry Operators.
The PLVs are assisting the IDPs in filing of more than 4000 Zero FIRs, reconstruction of lost documents, educational certificates, assistance in availing beneficiary schemes such as Ration Card, Job Card, Old Age Pension, Widow pension, Labour Card, Health Card, organizing Recreational activities for women and children such as painting competition, games & sport, movie screening; organizing skill development training programme for IDPs; providing psychological support/ counselling etc.
He also stated that with the passage of time, people tend to less remember the plight of the IDPs. The visit of Hon’ble Mr. Justice B.R. Gavai & senior Judges of Supreme Court is a sign of our commitment to continue support and provide legal aid & services to the IDPs. It is hope that this noble visit of the Supreme Court of India will draw the attention of the concerned authorities to joined hand with NALSA to render help & assistance so that the plight of the IDPs is lessened till a permanent solution is arrived.
Hon’ble Mr. Justice B.R. Gavai highlighted that the Constitution guarantees all citizens access to justice in a speedy and affordable manner. To fulfill this, NALSA reaches out to the remotest areas of the country. A just society is built on principles like accessibility to justice, healthcare, and opportunities that empower individuals.
Internally displaced persons, who are among the most vulnerable, face significant challenges in rebuilding their lives. It is our moral and constitutional duty to ensure that they are not left behind in this process. The Legal Services Institutions will also play a crucial role in ensuring that displaced individuals received their rightful entitlements.
The Special Legal Aid Clinics set up by MASLSA within the displaced communities will offer free legal assistance, empowering people to seek justice and protect their rights. He urges all displaced individuals to take advantage of this services and assured that the Legal Services Institutions stand with them in their journey towards rebuilding their lives.
He also stated that our country is a true example of unity in diversity. The State of Manipur is going through a difficult time but with the assistance of everyone, the legislative, the executive & the judiciary, these difficulties will be over soon. He further stated that as Manipur is part of India it is the home of everybody and appeal to all the citizens of India to help in rebuilding & restoring peace in the State of Manipur.
The Hon’ble Judges of the Supreme Court of India distributed Sanad of 41 newly enrolled Advocates from Churachandpur and study materials to the re-enrolled students. Relief materials consisting of Jumbo box, mosquito nets, emergency lamps and milk powders for infant and children, buckets, mugs, diapers were distributed to IDPs both at Churachandpur & Bishnupur districts.
Hon’ble Supreme Court Judges led by Mr. Justice B.R. Gavai also inspected the Relief Camps at Sadbhavna Mandap Relief Camp, Tuibong, Churachandpur & Moirang College, Relief Camp at Bishnupur District.
