Reaffirms May 3 as "Manipur Peace Day"
- 2nd May, 2025 :: Thadou Students' Association (TSA) -
*
Exactly one year after our public call to observe May 3 as “Manipur Peace Day”, the Thadou Students’ Association (TSA) once again extends a heartfelt appeal to all communities of Manipur to come together in the spirit of peace, reconciliation, and mutual understanding.
May 3, 2023, remains a painful turning point in our collective history. It marked the eruption of widespread violence and division, the scars of which are still raw for countless families across the hills and valleys of Manipur. But we must not let this day be a symbol of hatred. It must instead become a reminder of what violence destroys and what understanding can rebuild.
Despite enduring grave suffering, the Thadou people have consistently stood for peace, dialogue, and democratic resolution. As we commemorated “Manipur Peace Day” last year, we called for love in the face of hatred and empathy in the face of violence. One year later, we repeat this call because the only solution to Manipur’s conflict is community understanding.
Why Community Understanding Is the Only Path?
1. No community can thrive in isolation or in opposition to another.
2. True peace cannot be enforced by arms; it must be earned through empathy, mutual respect, and dialogue.
3. Historical injustices, grievances, and misrepresentations must be addressed, not ignored but always through non-violent, constitutional means.
Our Appeal:
We urge every individual, organization, every church, every tribe, and every political leader to:
1. Observe May 3 as “Manipur Peace Day” with solemnity, reflection, and commitment to peace.
2. Reject retaliatory or antagonistic events that deepen communal divisions.
3. Promote truth, justice, and reconciliation through constructive dialogue.
4. Educate the next generation to value harmony over hatred, truth over propaganda, and unity over vengeance.
Let Peace Be Our Legacy:
Let May 3, 2025, not remind us only of what we lost, but inspire us to protect what remains, and rebuild what is broken. We cannot undo the past, but we can choose a different future. A future rooted in peace, coexistence, and justice.
May Manipur rise above its pain and become an example to the world, not of conflict, but of courage, character, and community healing.
“Peace is for the strong and bold, not of the weak and timid.”
Statement: "Thadou is a distinct ethnic group of people. Thadou is not Kuki, or underneath Kuki, or part of Kuki, but a separate, independent entity from Kuki. Any organisation, individuals or elected representative that incorporates "Thadou" but espouses Kuki and mis-portrays Thadou as Kuki or a part of Kuki is illegitimate and does not represent Thadou people and interest" - Thadou Convention Declaration - 2024.
