Strong Objection to the Central Government's Decision to Revoke the Free Movement Regime and Fencing of Border in Naga Inhabited Areas
The Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi, Manipur, strongly condemn and object to the Central Government's decision to revoke the Free Movement Regime and construct fencing along the border in Naga inhabited areas. This decision is a blatant disregard for the rights and interests of the Naga people, and we vehemently oppose it.
Furthermore, we condemn Union Home Minister Amit Shah's recent comment on March 1, 2025, to accelerate the fencing process along the Indo-Myanmar Border. This statement is not only insensitive but also reflects the government's disregard for the concerns and rights of the indigenous people living in the border areas.
The Free Movement Regime has been in place for decades, allowing the Naga people to move freely across the border, maintaining cultural, social, and economic ties with their kinfolk. Revoking this regime will not only disrupt the lives of countless Nagas but also undermine the very fabric of our society.
The construction of fencing along the border is a clear attempt to divide and fragment the Naga people, undermining our ancestral lands and territories. This move will only serve to exacerbate tensions and create further instability in the region.
We urge the Central Government to reconsider this ill-conceived decision and engage in meaningful consultations with the Naga people. We demand that our rights, interests, and concerns be respected and addressed.
We stand in solidarity with all Naga organizations, communities, and individuals in rejecting this decision. Together, we will continue to fight for our rights, our land, and our dignity.
