The Delhi Meetei Co-Ordinating Committee (DMCC) urges the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Mizoram Police to conduct a thorough and complete investigation to find out the “arms recoveries” in Mizoram on 15th January 2025 from the outskirts of Saithah village within the jurisdiction of West Phaileng Police Station, Mamit District, Mizoram by Mizoram Police were not intended for trade between the Kuki-Chin militants who have been actively part of the kuki military aggression against Meeteis in Manipur Violence since 3rd May 2023.
“The Arms Seizure in Mizoram: Collaborative Effort by Mizoram Police and Sister Intelligence Agency” dated 15th January, 2025 stated that Mizoram Police has registered a case at West Phaileng Police Station, Mamit District, Mizoram. Under this case, five accused have been arrested in connection with this arms seizure. Among those detained is a notable leader of the Chin National Front (CNF), an insurgent group based in Myanmar. The arrest of such a high-profile individual is a significant achievement in counter-insurgency operations in the state of Mizoram|.” The leader of a Myanmar-based militant group was among five people who were arrested by the Mizoram Police in what Mizoram Police said was “one of the largest arms bust in the northeast state.”
It was further stated that they were arrested in a major operation by the Mizoram Police, in partnership with a sister Intelligence Agency with huge seizure of arms and ammunition. According to the Mizoram Police Statement, “This operation is one of the largest arms recoveries in Mizoram, delivering a stern warning to illegal operators in the region.
The Mizoram Police described the operation as “one of the largest arms busts in the northeastern state.” The seizure included:
o AK-47 rifles: 6
o AK ammunition: 10,050 cartridges
o Magazines: 13
“With this catch, a serious threat to regional peace and stability has been neutralised,” stated Mizoram Police.
Here, DMCC observes that these “Arms Seizure in Mizoram” were the real arms and not as claimed by Kuki- Chin militants in Manipur many times as “Kuki -Chin militants were holding wood gun in Manipur”. Most concerning after this report of Arms Seizure in Mizoram is, such arms have been widely used by Kuki- Chin militants in Manipur during the 20 months Kuki Chin military aggression on Meeteis in Manipur. People of Manipur and Indian Intelligentsia including security establishments have been asking where Kuki militants arms were coming from because these arms were not looted from Manipur Police.
Mizoram police further stated, “Preliminary investigation reveals that the confiscated arms and ammunition were intended for trade between the Chin National Front (CNF) from Myanmar - a prominent rebel organization - and the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF P), another insurgent group active in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh.
This operation highlights the trans-national character of illegal arms dealings and emphasizes the ongoing threats to regional stability.” DMCC demanded full and complete investigation by competent authority on why this seizure arms in Mizoram were intended for? This is not the first time that that such arrest was reported in Mizoram.
In September 2022, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) searched two locations in Mizoram's Aizawl in a case linked to the recovery of 2,400 kg of explosives, including 1,000 detonators and 4,500 metres of fuse wires. During the searches, incriminating material including mobile phones and bank documents were seized from the premises of the suspects. In a press release issued by NIA dated 31st July 2024 NIA has categorically stated that “NIA had registered the case RC-31/2023/NIA/DLI on 26th December 2023 against Lalngaaihauma and others on the basis of inputs that some Mizoram based ethnic were engaged in the illegal trafficking of arms, ammunitions, explosive etc. in the north eastern region of the country.”
Such real creak down on illegal armed international trafficking in North eastern states of Mizoram or any other states in India by the state police including Mizoram police be fully acknowledged and rewarded by
