Hon'ble Mr. Justice A. Bimol Singh handing over the Award of National Lok Adalat to the parties

The office of Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) in association with High Court Legal Services Committee & District Legal Services Authorities organized the first National Lok Adalat for the calendar year, 2025 on 8th March, 2025 at all the District Courts & at the High Court of Manipur.

Hon’ble Mr. Justice A. Bimol Singh, Judge, High Court of Manipur & Executive Chairman, MASLSA; Shri A. Guneshwar Sharma, Judge, High Court of Manipur & Hon’ble Mrs. Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu, Judge, High Court of Manipur accompanied by Shri Alek Muivah, Member Secretary, Manipur State Legal Services Authority visited the sitting of National Lok Adalat at Lamphel Court Complex.

Hon’ble Judges of the High Court handed over the Award of National Lok Adalat to some of the parties & appreciated everyone for participating in the National Lok Adalat. Altogether 4139 cases were listed for today’s National Lok Adalat for the whole state of Manipur. The cases listed includes both pre- litigation and civil cases pending before the courts such as Matrimonial disputes, Bank recovery cases, MACT cases, Negotiable Instrument Act cases, Land Acquisition cases, Electricity & Water Bill cases, telephone bill matters.

Out of 392 cases taken up, 330 cases were successfully resolved during the Lok Adalat with total settlement amount of Rs. 2,09,40,102/- (Rupees two crores nine lakhs forty thousand one hundred and two) only.

Shri Y. Rother, District & Sessions Judge, Imphal West; Smt. Binny Ngangom, Judge, Family Court, Manipur; Smt. N. Lanleima, District & Sessions Judge, Imphal East presided as Chairperson of 3(three) benches of National Lok Adalat held at Lamphel Court Complex. Shri Ch. Momon Singh, Advocate; Smt. Th. Linthoingambi, Asst. Professor, D.M. University; Shri Ch. Bimolchandra, Advocate; Smt. Ph. Binodini, Advocate; Km. B. Supriya Devi, Advocate & Shri Th. Mahira, Advocate performed as Members of the benches of National Lok Adalat held at Lamphel Court Complex.

Shri Ojesh Mutum, Registrar General, High Court of Manipur presided as the Presiding Officer and Shri Kh. Ajit Singh, Registrar (Judicial), High Court of Manipur & Smt. R.K. Memcha Devi, Retd. District & Sessions Judge performed as Members for the National Lok Adalat Bench at High Court of Manipur.

Shri Alek Muivah, Member Secretary, MASLSA appeal to all the people to avail the services of Lok Adalat as they are free and less time consuming. Further, the agreement or award could only be arrived through the consent of both the parties and the role of the bench is to facilitate the parties to arrive at mutual agreement.

He further mentioned that the decree passed in the Lok Adalat are akin to decree passed by any civil court and they are final and no appeal lies before any other courts. In case of any settlement of cases which are pending before the Court, the Court fees already paid by the parties will be refunded.

He urges all the public to avail such services by bringing their pending as well as pre-litigation cases before any District Legal Services Authority or courts so that the same may be put up for settlement in the next National Lok Adalat which will be held on 10th May, 2025.

Advocates, PLVs, Staff of the Court & MASLSA, Officials of Bank/ Insurance Companies, News and Print Media & all the parties for contributing & participating in the National Lok Adalat and making this programme a success.

It is also requested to all the News and Print Media to give wider dissemination of Lok Adalat so that more people may avail the opportunity for resolving their dispute through this Alternative Dispute Resolution i.e. Lok Adalat.
