Appreciates Government of India's Action Plan for Restoration in Manipur
- 3rd March, 2025 :: Thadou Students' Association (TSA-GHQ) -
*
1. The Thadou Students' Association (TSA-GHQ), after enduring 22 months of one of the most challenging periods due to the ethnic conflict in Manipur since May 2023, is renewed with hope following the recent decision of the Government of India on the proclamation of Article 356 of the Constitution of India on February 13, 2025, by the President of India, thereby putting the Manipur Legislative Assembly on Suspended Animation with the resignation of Shri N. Biren Singh as the Chief Minister of Manipur on February 9, 2025.
2. In a high-level review meeting chaired by Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah on March 1, 2025, in New Delhi, key steps were outlined to address the security situation in Manipur. We see this as a light at the end of the tunnel.
3. TSA wholeheartedly welcomes and applauds the Union Home Minister’s directive to ensure free movement on all roads in Manipur from March 8, 2025, and to take strict action against any attempts to create obstructions. This long-awaited decision is a great relief for the Thadous of Manipur, who have been among the most affected yet silenced victims during the crisis. We look forward to its effective implementation as part of the broader roadmap for restoration. In fact, TSA and other Thadou leaders of Manipur have painstakingly made relentless efforts for peace and normalcy since the beginning of the tragic violence in Manipur.
4. TSA also strongly appreciates the Indian government’s action plans against extortion and to enhance border security as part of our national interest. These measures will greatly contribute to the safety and stability of the region. Furthermore, the decision to dismantle the entire network involved in drug trafficking is truly commendable and should be supported by people of the state, irrespective of community or political affiliations. The drug menace has had severe socio-economic repercussions, with long-term effects on future generations. A drug-free Manipur is a necessary and welcome step toward building a prosperous and peaceful society at this critical juncture.
5. TSA remains hopeful that these action plans will bring lasting peace and stability in Manipur, ensuring the safety and well-being of all the indigenous people of the state.
Statement: “Thadou is a distinct ethnic group of people. Thadou is not Kuki, or underneath Kuki, or part of Kuki, but a separate, independent entity from Kuki. Any organisation that incorporates “Thadou” but espouses Kuki and mis- portrays Thadou as Kuki or a part of Kuki is illegitimate and does not represent Thadou people and interest” - Thadou Convention Declaration - 2024.
