Walkathon on Legal Services Day

The office of Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) celebrated the Legal Services Day 2024 by organizing a Walkathon from High Court of Manipur to the office of MASLSA, ADR Centre, Lamphelpat.

The Walkathon was led by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Siddharth Mridul, Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur & Patron-in-Chief, MASLSA; Hon’ble Mr. Justice A. Bimol Singh, Judge, High Court of Manipur & Executive Chairman, MASLSA and joined by Judicial Officers, Members of All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA), High Court of Manipur Bar Association (HCBAM), Officials of High Court of Manipur, Manipur State Legal Services Authority & Legal Aid Defense Counsel System (LADCS).

While interacting with the media persons, Hon’ble the Chief Justice stated that on every 9th November the Legal Services Day is celebrated all over the country at Centre, State, District and Taluk level. It is on this day the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 came into force in the year, 1995. On this day, all the legal services functionaries reaffirm its commitment to provide free legal aid to the weaker sections of the society such as scheduled castes/scheduled tribes, women & child, persons with disabilities and persons who are in custody etc.

Today’s Walkathon is organized to spread awareness to the public at large of the availability of free and competent legal aid. Further, NALSA have made available a Toll Free Helpline No 15100 for free legal aid & assistance which is a multilingual including Manipuri. Any person who needs legal aid or legal advice may call up on this number and Retainer Lawyers of every district will be attending the call.

On this occasion, a Legal Awareness programme is also organized in all the district by the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) and a Legal Mobile Van is stationed at strategic locations including Ima Keithel where legal experts interacted with the public providing on-spot legal advices and conducting legal quiz.

The office of MASLSA is grateful to Hon’ble the Chief Justice, High Court of Manipur -cum- Patron-in-Chief, MASLSA; Hon’ble Mr. Justice A. Bimol Singh, Judge, High Court of Manipur -cum- Executive Chairman, MASLSA, all the Judicial Officers, Senior Advocates, Members of HCBAM, AMBA, officials of High Court of Manipur, LADCS, Mr. Rajiv Singh, IPS, DGP, Manipur, Director of Health Services, Govt. of Manipur and not the least media persons for making this programme a grand success.
