Hon'ble Shri Amit Shah,
Home Minister,
Government of India
Subject: Urgent Need for Peace in Manipur
Hon'ble Sir,
Greetings from the World Meetei Council (WMC)!
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the NDA government on completing 100 days in office. We also wish Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji continued good health and prosperity on his 74th birthday.
At the WMC, we have carefully considered your recent statements regarding the situation in Manipur, particularly your emphasis on border fencing and the suspension of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) to curb illegal migration.
While these measures may help reduce infiltration from across the border, we firmly believe that they do not address the root causes of the ongoing conflict. Immediate and decisive intervention from the central government is urgently required to restore peace.
Since September 1, the Chin-Kuki perpetrators have escalated violence by using sophisticated drones and rockets to attack Meetei villages. In light of this, we respectfully bring the following points to your kind attention:
1. Abrogation of the TRIPARTITE SoO Agreement: The Suspension of Operation (SoO) arrangement empowers Chin-Kuki militants, most of whom are illegal migrants, further escalating violence. We urge the government to revoke this agreement to stop their violent activities.
2. Concrete Action Against Perpetrators: The immediate priority must be to halt the attacks on Meetei villages by Chin-Kuki groups. Reports indicate that these groups are under the influence of the Army and Assam Rifles. Strong directives from the highest levels of government, including intervention by the Hon'ble Prime Minister, are needed to bring their actions under control.
3. Restoration of Normalcy: Peace will only return to Manipur when the Chin-Kuki militants are stopped from further violence. We believe the Army and Assam Rifles must be directed to act decisively in this regard.
We earnestly urge you to take swift and concrete measures to address these critical issues. Your intervention is crucial to restoring peace and normalcy in Manipur.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
With the highest regards,
Heigrujam Nabashyam
Chairman
