SIT required to probe suspicious death of Haoreibi

Present investigation team doubtful: Special Investigation Team required to probe the suspicious death of Basanti and Lanchenbi of Haoreibi

Youth’s Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) is deeply saddened to learn about the negligence in the ongoing investigation over the suspicious death of Adhikarimayum Basanti (Widow) and her daughter Adhikari Mayum Lanchenbi.

The investigation is under process being supervised by the SDPO of Wangoi which is doubtful in nature and observed that the SDPO is in nexus with the prime suspects to cover up the possible evidences leading to the death of Mother and Daughter. The present SDPO is a very close colleague of Ex-Officer in Charge of Manipur Police posted in Jiribam who is the brother of the prime suspect over the suspicious death.

Till date, the investigation team and the suspect’s family members have been propagating that the nature of death is a suicide without receiving the report of the post mortem which is doubtful in the first hand of deep nexus between them.

Not a single suspects are taken into custody for interrogation and the circumstances facts/ evidences leading to the cause of death could not be produce till date since the last 24 days of investigation by the present investigation team. Instead the investigation team discourages the circumstances evidences provided by the localities and are not corroborated in the investigation.

A vivid example of negligence from the part of the investigation team could be observed when the members of the JAC informed the police that a blood stained cloth was seen in front of the deceased house, the investigation team paid no heed to recover the said cloth till date. Further the present investigation have left out many circumstances facts/ evidences which may lead to the death.

The serious doubt in the present investigation have grew up among the people and observed that the present investigation team led by the SDPO is not competent to probe the suspicious death of Basanti and Lanchenbi.

We therefore, demand the Department of Home, Director General of Police and the Superintendent of Police I/W to urgently constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) which can be led by an officer not less than the rank of Superintendent of Police to probe the suspicious death of the widow mother and her daughter.
