Licypriya Kangujam departs for G20 Summit in Brazil

Globally renowned Child Climate Activists Licypriya Kangujam departs India today for a seven days visit to Brazil to attend G20 Summit 2024 on the invitation of the Brazilian President Lula da Silva. This year Brazil is hosting the crucial G20 Summit at Rio de Janeiro from 12 – 19 November and several world leaders are attending the summit.

13 years old activist Licypriya Kangujam will address the world leaders on fighting climate disinformation and will urge the rich nations to pay for the lost and damaged funds for the climate crisis caused by the rich nations to the poor developing nations.

Licypriya will represent the voices of the global south in this year's crucial G20 Summit, in addition to key topics like ending war in Ukraine and Palestine. Licypriya will also highlight the ongoing conflict in Manipur and will table several issues of East Timor.

Licypriya is the only child invited from all over the world to speak in this year’s G20 Summit. Other world leaders attending the G20 summit 2024 are Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor olaf Scholz, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni and many African leaders will also join this year after African Union was granted membership of G20 by India’s Presidency last year in New Delhi.

On November 18, Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty will be launched during the G20 Summit under the initiative of the Brazilian Government and co-chair by the President of East Timor Dr Jose Ramos Horta. It will be a global task force on social protection for nutrition, human capital, and local economic development of least developed nations.

And also the Licypriya Office announced that Licypriya will not attend the United Nations Climate Conference 2024 - COP29 which kicks off today in Baku, Azerbaijan. As most world leaders skip COP29, she also decided not to attend the UN Climate Summit this year. Instead, she will be attending the G20 Summit in Brazil from 12 – 19 November.
