Thadou Community International (TCI), Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) and Thadou Students’ Association (TSA), as a collective leadership of the Thadou community, would like to send Merry Christmas 2024 and Happy New Year 2025 greetings to all Thadou people worldwide and people of all other communities of Manipur.
The year 2024 has been a year of great challenge especially for the indigenous Thadou people living in Manipur and Myanmar due to the tragic violence in Manipur and political unrest in Myanmar and that both led to the loss of many previous lives and properties and untold sufferings that turned the lives of too many people upside down.
Being the most affected yet silenced victims of the Manipur violence that started on May 3, 2023, the return of peace and normalcy is most important for the Thadou people, but also for all the affected people from all other communities. In the midst of such great challenges and darkness, the hope for peace and brighter future is not all lost.
It is in this context that TCI, TIM and TSA have been bravely and steadfastly advocating for peace and non-violent resolutions despite fierce opposition, including vicious lethal attacks and death threats, from anti-peace, violent elements.
By the grace and strength of God, Thadou Convention 2024 was successfully held at Guwahati on November 1-2 under the aegis of TCI and TSA, at which the much-needed 10-point declaration and resolutions on the distinctive identity of Thadou as an ethnic people and their aspirations and future were adopted, in line with the long-standing desire, demands and the best interest of Thadou people.
Thanks to the efforts of all peace lovers, peace-focused civil society and community leaders and media personalities as well as relevant government authorities, it is heartening and pleasing to see peace slowly but eventually returning in Manipur, and we pray and appeal to all to stop and renounce violence, but instead embrace and allow peace to retake its rightful place in the community.
We cannot allow warmongering anti peace selfish elements or vested interest groups and individuals to dictate the society, through coercive and violent tactics, against the wishes of the peace-and-justice loving common people, who bear the brunt of the violence.
As we celebrate Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ, the Saviour and Prince of Peace, and look forward to New Year 2025, we wish all Thadou people worldwide and all people of Manipur peace, joy and prosperity.
Let this time be a reminder of the importance of peace, nonviolence, love, reconciliation and justice, and therefore reject violence and embrace peace. May this Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 bring us renewed love and reconciliation with one another and new blessings!
With warmest wishes,
TCI, TIM and TSA - joint team
Statement: “Thadou is a distinct ethnic group of people. Thadou is not Kuki, or underneath Kuki, or part of Kuki, but a separate, independent entity from Kuki. Any organisation that incorporates “Thadou” but espouses Kuki and mis-portrays Thadou as Kuki or a part of Kuki is illegitimate and does not represent Thadou people and interest” – Thadou Convention 2024.
