Folklore Night: "Tales of the Ancestors" at Noney

On 29th December 2024, Rongdai Village in Noney District, Manipur, came alive with cultural vibrancy as the Rongdai Students’ Union and Rongdai Youth Club jointly organized the Folklore Night under the theme: “Tales of the Ancestors.”

The event commenced with a warm welcome and an insightful keynote address by Mr. Poujiabthai Gangmei (Zeppuh), President of the Rongdai Students’ Union.

In his speech, Mr. Gangmei emphasized the invaluable role of folklore as an inalienable cultural heritage passed down through generations. He highlighted the growing challenges posed by cultural intermixing and globalization, which risk overshadowing the unique traditions of smaller communities.

Stressing the need for preservation, he urged attendees to take active steps in recording and disseminating their folklore to safeguard their identity for future generations.

The evening was marked by various performances, storytelling sessions, and discussions with village elders that celebrated the rich heritage and traditions of the community.

The event served as a platform to bridge generational gaps and instill pride in cultural identity among the youth.
