Condemns Killing of CRPF Personnel and Bombing of Bridge

Kuki terrorists once again attacked the economic lifeline of India’s north-eastern state of Manipur by bombarding a bridge along the National-Highway-2 (Trans Asian Highway 1) in the predawn hour of April 24, 2024 to severe the crucial connectivity to the landlocked Imphal Valley. It coincided with their two days of armed attacks to plunder Meitei villages at Awang Sekmai and also to obstruct the movement of troops for election duty on April 26.
It is not the first time that Kuki terrorists have targeted the National Highways for spoils, extortion, communal blockades and disturbances. Recently, on April 16, they attacked a convoy of goods carriers on the National Highway-37 causing bullet injury to two drivers and destruction of five fuel tankers. On June 21, 2023, they bombarded a bridge at Kwakta that killed three and severely injured many.
Today, April 27, they killed two brave CRPF soldiers ( Sub Inspector N. Sarkar and Head Constable Arup Saini) and injured two of them (Inspector Jadav Das, and Constable Aftab Hussain) in another bomb attack. Subsequently, during a search operation in the Kuki village, a significant cache of arms and ammunition were recovered.
While India’s internal security and Act East Policy must witness steady progress, the vulnerability of the Trans Asian Highway and National Highways passing through Manipur cannot be addressed until the Kuki terrorists have been neutralised. Due to lack of actions, Kuki terrorists are enjoying parasitic aggrandizement by preying on vehicles, commuters, passengers, commodities, lifesaving essential items, and emergency services passing through these routes.
Meitei Alliance, a conglomeration of several Meitei diaspora organisations across the globe, therefore, strongly condemns the heinous crimes of killing security forces, innocent civilians and attack on the economic lifelines. It appeals the Government of India to swiftly act, arrest the culprits, enforce adequate rules of procedure for safety along the Highways, and neutralise the Kuki terrorists.
