Mumbai Manipuri Solidarity Group, a group of Manipuri diaspora in Mumbai today has condemned the attack on innocent villagers at Koutruk and neighbouring Kadangband areas in Manipur on the 1st September by the Kuki militant groups. A statement released today from the group read:
We, the Mumbai Manipuri Solidarity Group members, are deeply shocked by the attack in Manipur on September 1, 2024, where two innocent, unarmed people including one woman were killed by Kuki militants using drone bombs. This act of terror not only represents a new level of brutality but also highlights a disturbing tactic: prolonging the crisis for strategic gain.
It is clear that the Kuki militants are using violence to perpetuate instability. This calculated attack on civilians underscores their intent to keep the conflict alive for their benefits. Such actions are a gross violation of human rights and an abuse of power. It is also a calibrated attack on weaker sections of the population - the communities living in the foothills, and innocent unarmed women.
We condemn this barbaric act and urge all the stakeholders to pursue genuine dialogue and non-violent solutions. We call on the Central and State Governments to re restore normalcy without any further delay. We urge the Indian Army, Paramilitary Forces and the Manipur Police to intervene and hold those responsible accountable instead of playing the role of a bystander. The international community must also support peace efforts and address the root causes of this conflict.
Our deepest sympathies are with the victims and their families. The Mumbai Manipuri Solidarity Group stands firmly against these acts of terror and remains committed to advocating for justice and peace.
The Mumbai Manipuri Solidarity Group earlier was part of organising rallies in Azad Maidan in Mumbai demanding restoration of peace in Manipur. It also organised relief materials for internally displaced people in Imphal valley and Jiribam. Apart from that, the group also produced various documents analysing the current Manipur crisis.
