Candlelight Protest at Bangalore Against Brutal Killing
Candlelight Protest Against Brutal Killing after being taken hostage in Manipur's Jiribam
We, the Karnataka Meitei Association (KMA) are utterly horrified and deeply saddened by the senseless, barbaric and brutal murder of six innocent lives – at the Borobekra relief camp, included 66-year-old Yurambam Rani, 25-year-old Laishram Heitombi, her two young children (2-year-old L. Chingkheinganba and 8 months old L. Lanngamba), 30-year-old Telem Thoibi, and 8 years old T. Thajanganbi, after being taken
hostage from a relief camp for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at Borobekra Police Station in Jiribam, Manipur, India on Monday, November 11, 2024.
A silent candlelight protest was held today at ABCD Ground, Viveknagar, Bangalore, to condemn the brutal killing and heinous crime beyond humanity committed by the Chin-Kuki-Zo militants/terrorists.
The tragic incident, perpetrated by armed Chin-Kuki-Zo groups, has sent shockwaves across the nation. The victims, who sought refuge in the IDP camp, were brutally murdered in the evening. This act of violence is a heinous crime that shocks the conscience of humanity.
We condemn this barbaric act in the strongest possible terms and put forward four key demands:
1. An immediate military crackdown on Chin-Kuki-Zo militants, who has been spreading reign of terror on the innocent Meiteis,
2. Withdrawal of the recently reimposed Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in the six police stations of five districts in Manipur, namely, Sekmai Police Station in Imphal West District; Lamsang Police Station in Imphal West District; Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East District; Jiribam Police Station in Jiribam District; Moirang Police Station in Bishnupur District; Leimakhong Police Station in Kangpokpi District.
3. Central force to hand over the baton to Manipur Police and provide 24/7 assistance.
4. Compensation for all slain persons.
