85th Nupi Lal Day / Protest Demonstration at Delhi
The Observance of the 85th Nupi Lal Day Cum Protest Demonstration Against the Sexual Assault , raped, and Murder of Meitei Women and Children in Manipur By Kuki Militants under the watch of State Government and Central Government was held on 12th December 2024 at Jantar Mantar.
In the Nupi Lal Protest, Mr. T Uttam , father of 8 years daughter Thajalembi and wife of Telam Thoibi Devi, aged 31 participated in the Protest.
The Delhi Meitei Coordinating Committee (DMCC), Women’s and Youth wings condemned the unjust detention of Th. Sujata by the Delhi Police, preventing her from participating in the Nupi Lal observance at Jantar Mantar.
Thokchom Sujata, Convenor of Image Meira, was detained by Delhi Police today at her place of stay. She traveled to Delhi specifically to attend the Nupi Lal observance event at Jantar Mantar, organized by Women’s and Youth wing, Delhi Meitei Coordinating Committee (DMCC).
The Delhi police denied her from attending a peaceful event, citing unsubstantiated input that she planned to protest nude. This decision raises concerns about the police's handling of peaceful assemblies and the dissemination of misinformation. It's essential to note that her intention was not to incite violence or engage in any unlawful activities.
The event aimed to honor the brave women who fought against British colonial oppression, economic exploitation, and injustice. It also sought to raise awareness about the ongoing atrocities and amplify the voices of victims and their families affected by the Jiribam Massacre. The DMCC strongly condemns the actions of the law enforcement agencies in this regard. This incident raises concerns about the freedom of speech and assembly, as well as the treatment of social activists by law enforcement agencies.
The denial of women activists from attending this historic moment, the law enforcement are silencing their voice. This indicates the blatant disregard to the women’s who is fighting against the injustice. This is not only an insult to the women of Manipur but also a setback for the entire women's movement in India.
The Meira Paibi movement, which originated in Manipur, has been a beacon of hope for women's empowerment and social change. The movement's history and significance are a testament to the strength and resilience of Manipuri women. The Delhi police's actions are a stark contrast to the values of courage, solidarity, and resistance that these women embody.
85th Nupi Lal Day / Protest Demonstration at Delhi
The observance of Nupi Lal (1939) is a tribute to the unwavering courage and determination of Meitei women, who bravely resisted British colonial oppression and economic exploitation. Nupi Lal embodies the unrelenting spirit and resilience of Manipuri women, who have consistently fought against oppression, economic injustice, and colonial exploitation, inspiring generations to strive for freedom, equality, and social injustice.
Today, the women of Manipur have taken to the streets to protest against the Indian Government's inaction in the face of injustice faced by the people of Manipur. For 18 long months, Manipur has been suffering, yet the government remains a silent spectator.
The Indian Government's is protecting and patronizing Chin-Kuki militants, as a part of a geopolitical strategy or Burmese policy, under the guise of Suspension of Operation. This has only exacerbated the situation.
Currently, Meitei women are protesting on the streets, demanding justice for L. Kamalbabu, who went missing from the 57th Mountain Division, Leimakhong Army Complex in Manipur on November 25th, 2024. The disappearance of Kamalbabu from within the army camp premises has raised serious concerns, and the women of Manipur are united in their demand for truth and accountability.
Today, Manipur is witnessing a powerful resurgence of the Nupi Lal spirit, as thousands of women take to the streets to challenge the system and resist external aggression. This courageous display of solidarity and determination is a testament to the unwavering strength and resilience of Manipuri women.
The Delhi Meitei Coordinating Committee (DMCC) has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, with copies sent to all Members of Parliament, highlighting key concerns and issues that require attention.
The following demands are hereby presented:
