Youth’s Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) would like to appeal to the people of North Eastern Region to join hand together to fight against any forms of Mining and Land grabbing in the name of development which violates the rights of the indigenous peoples and its self determination on the 4th Death Anniversary of Late Spility Lyndoh Langrin who stood till her death to fight against the Uranium Mining in West Khasi Hills of Meghalaya.
The courage and will she had during her lifetime have awakened the people of Meghalaya and the North Eastern Region. She fought against the Uranium Corporation of India (UCIL) who offered 1.3 crores of rupees each year to lease her land in Domiasiat of West Khasi Hills to mine the Uranium.
On her 4th Anniversary, it is high time for the people of Manipur to learn from her movement against the mining and question the agenda of the extractive industries who are now planning to initiate various forms of mining in Manipur and also the ongoing Oil Exploration in Tamenglong District and other parts of Manipur.
We appeal to the agencies and companies to stop any forms of mining in the state of Manipur and North Eastern Region in general and stop destruction of Indigenous Peoples land.
We also extend our solidarity in observing the Anti Uranium Day being observed by the Khasi Students’ Union of Meghalaya every year on the 28th of October in remembrance of Late Spility Lyndoh Langrin.
