Shaheed Diwas : Remembering Mahatma Gandhi

To mark the death anniversary of the Father of the Nation and pay homage to the freedom fighters who laid their lives for the country's independence, 44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 22 Sector AR/IGAR (East) celebrated Shaheed Diwas on 30 Jan.

Remembering Mahatma Gandhi on this occasion who led the nation non violently to attain Independence and inspired numerous other movements for civil rights and freedom around the world, a walkathon was organised from Jadonang Park, Tamenglong.

The Commandant, Tamenglong AR battalion flagged off the walkathon to spread the message of unity, peace and non violence as professed by the Father of the Nation.

The walkathon finished at Helipad, where floral tributes were payed to the Mahatma and other Martyrs of the nation. At 1100 hours two minutes silence in memory of Indian martyrs was observed by all.

All works, movement stopped for two minutes as a mark of respect to Martyrs. Remembering the freedom fighters and their contribution towards achieving freedom was exerted.

It was pledged to preserve, protect and enrich the hard earned freedom and promote a sense of national integration and commitment for inclusive development of the region.
