One day awareness program on POCSO, Act and Legal mechanisms

Today on the 16th of January, 2022 one day awareness program on POCSO, Act and other legal mechanism was organized by Women Action for Development (WAD) in collaboration with Ningombam Ideal Youth Club at Thoubal Ningombam, Thoubal District.

The main aim of the program was to sensitize and aware the locality of the Thoubal Ningombam on the issue of raising crime against women and children and what are the legal mechanisms which are in need to be learned by every single person to respond to curb the same.

In the program Mrs. Sobita Mangsatabam, Secretary WAD and Mr. Ningombam Arunkumar, Vice President, Ningombam Ideal Youth Club were the key dais members cum resource Persons for today’s awareness. In which Mrs. Sobita stressed on what are the role of the community to response to crime against women in terms of providing psychosocial support and to avoid stigmatization to the victims.

Further she stressed on the steps on how to approach the nearest police station by any person when coming to know that a sexual assault have been committed to a minor girl or a boy under the age of 18 years as per the POCSO, Act, 2012 is concern. And also drew the attention of the participants to report such cases directly to the DGP if the nearest PS failed to receive the complaint.

Mrs. Sobita continued to maintain that it is not only the women or girls wo are in need to be made aware about the issue but also our sons, brothers, fathers etc. are also in need to understand the issue. The salient features of POCSO, Act was also stressed as the main topic of the program.

The program was participated by the local youth, their parents and meira paibis of the area.
