Manipur Prays For Power to Watch Mary Kom

India's power outages, which made international headlines in recent weeks, hurt millions of farmers, urban dwellers and industries. They also prevented the father of Olympic boxer M.C. Mary Kom from watching his daughter's opening bout in London.
"All we want is 8-10 minutes of uninterrupted power when her semi-final starts," the Hindustan Times quoted Mr. Kom as saying. The report said half of the remote state of Manipur, including the roughly 300 people in Kom's native village of Kengathel, missed Sunday's fight because of a power outage. Monday's quarterfinal against Tunisia's Maroua Rahali was uninterrupted, at least.
