Ibobi Singh fails to fulfil promises of land for boxing institute and promotion for Mary Kom
The Telegraph | Khelen Thokchom | Imphal, Aug. 1:
Magnificent Mary, as Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom is fondly called, has brought glory to the state in the 12 years of her boxing career and so have her students, but the state government is yet to fulfil its promises to her.
As Mary Kom prepares for the big Olympic fight in London, her husband Onler Kom is unhappy with the government for not fulfilling its promises of providing land for her proposed boxing institute and promoting her to the post of additional superintendent of police.
The pugilist had opened the Mary Kom Regional Boxing Foundation in 2006 and the Okram Ibobi Singh government had promised her a plot of land for the institute. After the chief minister asked her to find a suitable site, the couple found a place near their quarters and informed him about it. However, they are yet to get the land.
