Those who saw Manipuri firebrand Dingko Singh fight with anger and vengeance inside a makeshift boxing hall with a tin roof in Kathmandu's suburbs, rain pelting down and a hostile crowd rooting for the local Nepalese boy, or a Pakistani, would know where MC Mary Kom and Laishram Devendro Singh come from...
Mary Kom has battled gender prejudice, career-threatening injuries and some crushing defeats to reach this stage. The mother of two five-year-old sons has confirmed a medal but is eager to punch above her weight, literally.
Laishram Devendro is in the unorthodox mould, with quicksilver feet and faster hands. He has been absolutely ruthless in his first two bouts here.
