It was a day marked by sorrow, pride, and solemn salutes in Imphal East, Manipur, as the mortal remains of BSF Constable Deepak Chingakham were brought home to his native village. Draped in the tricolour, his coffin was received with full military honours by grieving family members, fellow BSF personnel, and local authorities.
Constable Chingakham made the ultimate sacrifice on the intervening night of May 9 and 10 during intense cross-border firing in the RS Pura sector of Jammu and Kashmir. He was part of Operation Sindoor, a critical mission aimed at neutralising infiltrations and hostile threats from across the Pakistan border.
BONBIHARI, Father of Deepak Chingakham
We feel immense pride in his sacrifice. For our family, however, this is a profound and heartbreaking loss. To us, he was more than a soldier — he was a beloved member of our family. Yet, the moment he took the oath to serve and protect the nation, he dedicated his life to a greater cause. Now, words fall short in expressing the depth of our sorrow.
A wave of mourners flooded the village — all standing united in grief, reverence, and admiration for the fallen hero. Deepak’s martyrdom has etched his name into the heart of the nation — a symbol of unmatched bravery, honour, and patriotism.
In recognition of his valour, the state government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to his family under the Major Laishram Jyotin Singh Ashok Chakra (P) Scheme for martyrs. Constable Deepak Chingakham’s sacrifice will forever remain a shining example of unwavering courage, deep devotion to duty, and unyielding love for the motherland.
