Meet Yaoreishim LA, a 30-year-old leather craftsman from Lamlang village in Manipur’s Ukhrul district. (Transcription) I received a message from MSME after applying for footwear training in Agra. I attended an interview in Imphal and was selected. Through MSME, I got the opportunity to pursue a one-year diploma course in footwear making in Agra.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Yaoreishim left his job and returned home in 2020, hoping to start his own leather footwear business. In September 2021, he launched his brand ‘Yaoreishim’ with support from family and friends. He dreams of a peaceful, developed Manipur where artists like him can thrive.

(Transcription) It was a big problem for a startup like mine, as we rely on the internet, WhatsApp, and Instagram to sell our products. During that time, we couldn’t make any online sales because the internet was shut down for over a month. It has been a real challenge for people like us.
Yaoreishim dreams of taking his handcrafted creations to the global stage, with hopes of exporting his products to international markets.

(Transcription) Even exporting in small quantities would be very profitable for my business. And if I can launch my own website, it would greatly help with marketing in the years to come.
Currently, Yaoreishim crafts customized leather wallets, bags, belts, cowboy hats, and more for both men and women. Yaoreishim’s journey reflects resilience and craftsmanship, inspiring hope for local talent to shine on a global stage.
