- Manipur enhances fire response with high-tech motorbikes (in English) : YouTube Link -
Manipur is rapidly advancing its capabilities to ensure public safety. Recently, the Manipur Fire Service inducted a fleet of firefighting motorbikes designed to tackle emergencies in narrow, congested areas that are often inaccessible to conventional fire engines.
Kh. Surchandra Singh
Fire Station Officer
(Translation): The Imphal region in Manipur experiences heavy traffic congestion, with most households having 3-4 vehicles. Due to the presence of many narrow streets, accessing the area by car for fire rescue is challenging. This is why we have incorporated motorbike firefighters, who have proven to be extremely useful for us.
Ten high-tech motorbikes, each equipped with a 40-litre water tank, spray gun, and 2-kg extinguisher, have been deployed for rapid response in congested urban areas."
Kh. Surchandra Singh
Fire Station Officer
(Translation): Our development is impressive these days; previously, we had 62 vehicles, and now we're receiving new units, including 4 fire extinguishers and 10 motorbikes equipped with spray gun water systems. The government's support has been significant, allowing us to reduce the time taken to extinguish fires, enabling us to save a considerable amount of time.
The Fire Department has also added four new Water Bowsers, each equipped to ensure an uninterrupted water supply during major incidents. The new fleet also includes modern rescue equipment and exhaust fans to clear smoke from affected areas, adding to the department’s preparedness for complex fire emergencies.
Nilichandra
Fireman
(Translation): I’m optimistic about it. The latest technology surpasses the previous equipment, particularly the boucher and motorcycle bikes. If the fire truck cannot access a densely populated area, these bikes can be utilised instead.
With these innovations, Manipur Fire Service is setting an example in smart emergency management. The swift, accessible design of the fire bikes and upgraded support vehicles reflects a shift towards localised, responsive disaster control, ensuring that help arrives when and where it is needed most.
