Bunglon Village celebrates Golden Jubilee - June 7 2007 - |

Bunglon Village in Churachandpur district of Manipur celebrates its golden 'existence' jubilee on June 7, 2007 with its own styles of tastes and flavours. The reverberating chimes of jubilee bell induced everyone to trudge the roads leading to Bunglon. The function was simple yet impressive and decent, where every passionate participant enjoyed with fun and jollity. Founded by the late Pu S Thangkhopau Gangte wayback in 1957, the village has 54 household in the foothills of Thangjing hill range. Located 43 kms south of Imphal, the state capital and 23 kms north of Churachndpur town, Bunglon become an important point for the convergence of more than fifty multi-ethnic villages of the area. To add essence to its stateliness, Bunglon had create a niche for herself as it is the largest producer of pineapple in the whole of Manipur indubitably. Lately though, Bunglon become a name to reckon with in Manipur when it come to live in full force in October last year when the first citizen of India, APJ Abdul Kalam set his foot in the village addressing the needs and wants of the villagers. The half-a-century commemorative function was graced by Shri Ph Parijat Singh, Minister, Agriculture, CADA, Government of Manipur; Smt Kim Gangte, ex-MP, Lok Sabha and Shri H D Gangte, DFO, CCPur as Chief guest, Guest of Honour and Functional President respectively. The dais was also flanked by Pu Khamzathang Gangte, Pi Lamchong Gangte, the chief of Bunglon, and a host of dignitaries including Maj SS Dangi, 6th Jat Regiment, Pu Lien Gangte, Secretary RJD Manipur, Pu Y Deben Singh, AE (Electricity) Moirang sub-division, and area chiefs attended the celebration.
Imbued with festive mood, villagers as well as well-wishers from next door villages welcome the guests by singing jubilee anthem in thousand voices. The Chief Guest Pu Parijat Singh unveiled the Golden Jubilee Stone which was followed by dedication of the memento to the Almighty by Rev. Dr. Soson Gangte, National Representative, International Association for Theological Accreditation (IATA). The congregation proceed to the Jubilee Hall where the main celebration program was suppose to take place. The day-long program was set into motion when Rev Ngultinthang says the invocation. Pu S Lulun Gangte, Chairman of the celebration committee propose his welcome address, while presentation to the Guests was done by the village lass. Paying tributes to the founding Sachem and other departed souls of the village during its fifty years of journey also marked the function. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Chief Guest, Ph Parijat Singh dwelt upon the fate of the village farmers. The Agriculture Minister promised help to the farmers community through various grants and sanctions undertaken by the government. He also said that the presence of numerous armed groups in the hills hampered developmental work in the area. Highlighting that Bunglon is the largest producer of Pineapple in the state, Pi Kim Gangte lament that the area is still an unexplored lot by the power that be and the media of the state. The ex-MP was more than optimistic when she says, "the area would be more developed if the concerns authorities pay proper and greater amount of attention". Being a denizen of the area, we won't tolerate negligence on the part of the government any longer, remarked the lady politician. The celebration was marked by fusion of pop and gospel music et al. Budding artistes like Jemm, Seipu and wonderkid Bethsy who are ready to hog the music limelight belted out sweet-sounding and soul-touching numbers to entertain the gathering. To keep the celebration spirit alive, celebrated artistes such as H. Muon, Max Seiboi Singson, Janglal Khongsai, John Mate sings out with their own trademarks. Their presence was another delectation which give extra-liveliness to the function. Pu Lunkholien Gangte, one of the founding members of the village account the fifty years journey in a nutshell. Pu H Soizalal Thangjom who speaks as the Functional President says that, Bunglon from its humble beginning, has become a model village among the villages in the entire district of Churachandpur. Says Pu Thangjom, it will be in the fitness of things to say that the village has produced a number of responsible citizens in the past and it will not be wrong to expect the same in the future too. The day-long program came to an end when Pu Khamkhogin Thangjom says the vote of thanks which was followed by a closing prayer from Pu Doukhai. The once in fifty years celebration came to an end with the promise of writing another glorious jubilee history for the Bunglonians. Amen. Related Item on Bunglon:
