The Olympic Reflection - Guilty
Dr. Thamsing Lamkang *
When we think of the Seoul Olympic of 1988, one name comes to mind is 'Ben Johnson'. The fastest man on two legs had his medals and records stripped away for having taken prohibited substances. He was banned from sports competitions for two years and had pages and pages written against him in the world's press.
No one could defend Ben Johnson, neither even his own family nor his country. Why? He did wrong and deserved all that he got. On the other hand that's the weird thing about our crazy, hypocritical and immoral world; after his medal was striped he was given two-year sentence for something relatively unimportant (it was. After all, only a sporting issue).
The society that condemned Ben is the same one that let things go by unheeded in the political arenas. It's the same one that keeps quiet when someone's connection is the right places make things happen. It's the same one that lets thousands starve to death while others get armed to the teeth for war. It's the same one that turns a blind eye to the half-hidden 'theft' of millions of rupees meant for the good cause.
It's the same one that is destroying the peaceful co-existence in the world for the sake of power and control. It's the same one that discriminates against others because of their race, color, sex and above all, their social standings. And there's no-one to dish out any sentence or punishment for any of this evil works happening everywhere in the world!
When Adam & Eve sinned they looked for something to cover them with, because sin strips them bare, showing who they really are! So they got hold of a fig leafs. And today we carry in covering things with the equivalent of fig leaves-as in the case of Ben Johnson-thinking we've dealt with the issue, while greater evils go unchallenged and unpunished: What could a punishment be for corrupted people or leaders for taking all the benefits of their power and position? What about the bureaucrats and politicians for their greediness and selfishness to public funds?
Such is very much existed in our present situations and scenarios. What about deceit? Or killing someone precious to the parents and community? We'd better not go any further down this path or else we'll all be guilty of something! Just take a moment to reflect, what can be done to you, and for those GUILTY?
Do you know what, God knows we're all guilty! We're all in the same boat. We've all sinned and fallen short of His eternal glory and standards. So don't go looking for a way out; we're all in this together. What? You think you're therefore, of what we are all like. We're all guilty in God's eyes. We may think that some people definitely deserve to be punished more than others, but that doesn't change the overall verdict. 'History has given its verdict: humanity is guilty'! Learn to be fair to punish the guilty, as if you are one of them. Be considered! For none can escape the heavenly verdict.
