The Trophy of North East Tamchon Football Tournament
The North East Tamchon Football Tournament is organized by The Tangkhul Naga Society (TNSD) annually at Dr. Ambedkar Stadium, New Delhi for the last 6 years since 2007. The tournament was set up in 2006, with the objective of bringing different communities from the north eastern region (NER) together for, deeper understanding of each other's' culture, friendship and community bonding in particular and bridging with mainland India in general.
The North East Tamchon Football Tournament has become truly an annual event of the entire North East Community of Delhi. This event has also become an occasion to showcase the region's rich cultural heritage to the country and the world at large. Of late the unspoken theme of the tournament truly has become 'obliterating distance of relationship and barriers of unity'.
This simple act of coming out to play has become truly a symbol of the region's hope in the country. So far 2900 players have taken part in the tournament. Many players are now playing for various football clubs of the country. The opening and closing ceremony of the tournament showcases vibrant performances by troupes and performers from the North East.
TNSD is a registered body whose members consist of students, professionals, bureaucrats and businessmen of the Tangkhul community in Delhi. The founding of the Organisation was indeed a dream realization long cherished by the people in general and the leaders of the Region in particular for a cohesive and inclusive platform, so as to provide and build and to promote solidarity, fraternity and mutual respect amongst the different communities of the North East region in Delhi.
The Society, which started in 2006 from a modest beginning, is today one of the most inclusive and progressive organization of the Northeast community in Delhi. Apart from organizing North East Tamchon Trophy, TNSD has organized "SONGS AND IMAGES OF NORTH EAST" in the year 2006 at Siri Fort auditorium. It also gives aid to student communities of the region and also to the needy and bereaved families. And from a humble beginning the TNSD has come a long way.
The tournament also serves as a memorial to Late. R.N.Tamchon, Commissioner of Police (ACP), Delhi, the eldest son of Yangshi Raingam and Mikshala Raingam from Phadang Village in Ukhrul District from Manipur. He was a father figure for many in Delhi and had always been a voice for the voiceless. He was one of the most sought-after officers in Delhi.
A very friendly, intelligent, down to earth, and very helpful to the poor and the weak, Tamchon finished Graduation and Post-Graduation from St.Stephen College, University of Delhi, from 1985-1990. He joined Delhi, Andaman and Nicopar Police Services (DANPS) in 1995.
