Aku Zeliang, Principal Designer of Cane Concept and founder of Urra Design, participated at the esteemed Homo Faber event at Venice, Italy on August 31, 2024 . Homo Faber is not just another international event but a cultural movement that celebrates creativity and contemporary craftsmanship biennially.
It is curated by Michelangelo Foundation, Geneva, with the aim of promoting a more human, inclusive and sustainable future by celebrating the creations of human hand.
The event brought together skilled artisans, designers and makers from all around the world and exhibited their craftsmanship and innovative designs.
In this year's Homo Faber, Aku Zeliang in collaboration with Gunjan Gupta represented the craftsmanship of North East India through a project called, "The Tokri Chair" . Local artisans helped transform ordinary bamboo baskets into the stunning hand-woven chair. This piece elevates traditional craftsmanship, demonstrating the potential of everyday objects as metaphor in design.
During the event, Aku, apart from showcasing his work, also discussed the art of craftsmanship with fellow attendees from diverse backgrounds to enrich their perspectives, spark new ideas and foster meaningful connections. The show was organised by the Swiss Richemont Group which also owns Cartier.
